Charlie Roy, age 83, Adair County, KY (1935-2018)

He was a longtime business owner in Columbia, Charles Roy Grocery and Druthers/Dairy Queen. Charlie was a member of the Freedom Church of God and served on the Freedom Cemetery committee since 1973, having only missed one annual meeting.

Charlie Roy, age 83 years of the Freedom Church Road, in Adair County KY passed away Sunday September 16, 2018 at 3:36 AM at the University Kentucky Chandler Medical Center in Lexington, KY.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at 10amCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY with Bro. Carlie Riggs officiating and interment in the Freedom Cemetery. Visitation is after 4pmCT Tuesday. Pallbearers will be Jackie Aaron, Steve Roy, Rudy Higginbotham, Lonnie Devore, Bobby Devore & Stacy Huff.

Philip Grant Anderson, Jr., 26, Jamestown, KY (1991-2018)

He was born December 12, 1991 in Miami, Florida. He was a maintenance worker at American Wood Mart in Monticello.

Philip Grant Anderson, Jr., age 26, of Jamestown, died on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at the Baptist Health Hospital in Lexington.

The funeral service for Philip Grant Anderson, Jr. will be 1pmCT on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at the Bernard Funeral Home Chapel, 367 North Main St., Russell Springs, KY, with Bro. Doug Couch and Bro. Mike Polston officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethlehem Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5pmCT until 8pmCT on Wednesday, and then after 8amCT on Thursday until funeral time.

Tompkinsville author's 3rd novel explores right to reproduce

Tompkinsville, KY - Kimberly R. Bartley describes her latest novel, Go Forth and Multiply, as "mildly dystopian." It's a departure for the Christian author, whose two previous works are Christian fiction with elements of romance, and she's hoping readers will join her in pondering life and love from a different angle.

Go Forth and Multiply is available on Amazon and at select locations in Southcentral Kentucky, where the author resides with her family. In addition to writing, Kimberly Bartley enjoys reading, making quilts, and teaching.

LWC Men's Soccer blanks Menlo 2-0 in Top-25 matchup

The No. 10-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team shutout No. 25 Menlo (Calif.) 2-0 in a Top-25 matchup at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.

The Blue Raiders (5-1-1) got goals from Yuta Yamamoto and Karim Jouini. Andrew Revanales recorded an assist. Lindsey Wilson outshot the Oaks (5-2) 17-15 and held a 4-2 edge in shots on goal. Rainer De Jesus led the way with four shots while David Ibrahimkadic and Jouini had three apiece.

Jonathan Neat, 37, Columbia, KY (1980-2018)

Jonathan was a truck driver and enjoyed motorcycles, gun collecting and knife collecting.

Jonathan Neat, 37 of Liberty Road, Columbia, KY passed away Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 2:22pmET at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington, KY, from injuries received in a motorcycle accident on August 28, 2018 on KY 206 near Columbia, KY.

The family request visitation after 3pmCT on Monday, September 17, 2018 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at 1pmCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg St., Columbia, KY. Bro. David Coffey will officiate. Interment will follow in the New Hope Cemetery.

KY Public Health Nurses Deploy to NC for Florence Recovery

A team of 10 public health nurses and two administrative staff members have been deployed to North Carolina to assist victims of Hurricane Florence. They were scheduled to leave from the Kentucky Department for Public Health in Frankfort this morning, Sunday, Sept. 16, 2018.

The group will include nurses and administrative support staff from Bracken County Health Department, Department of Insurance, Kentucky Department for Public Health, Lexington-Fayette County Health Department and Louisville Metro Public Health and Wellness. The team will be working in local shelters in Hurricane Florence-impacted areas of North Carolina. The deployment is expected to last two weeks.

Boil Water Advisory

UPDATE 2:08pmCT Monday - this advisory has been lifted.

Columbia/Adair Utilities District

As of 10:30amCT on Sunday, September 16, 2018 a boil water advisory is in effect for consumers of Columbia Adair Utilities District for customer from 45 Hwy 900 to 2700 Hwy 900, Powell Creek Road, Arlis Grant Road, Joe Tom Grant Road , Crocus View Road, and Wellie Grant Road.

The advisory has been issued due to main line leak. Following such an event, the potential exists for bacteriological contamination of the water supply therefore the boil water advisory has been issued as a precautionary measure. Until further notice, boil all water used for drinking and cooking, bringing the water to a rolling boil for three minutes before using.

This advisory will remain in effect until the situation has been corrected and test results have shown the water to be of an acceptable quality.

Bowling tournament fundraiser for Brandon Burns Scholarship Fund

The Brandon Burns Memorial Doubles Shootout will be held Sunday, September 30 at 2PM EDT. at Phillips Lanes 164 Bambi Dr., Campbellsville, KY.

Check in at 1pmET, competition starts at 2pmET. Entry fee is $50 per team, and $32 per team goes to the Brandon Burns Endowed Scholarship Fund.

The format will be 6 Baker games with everyone moving one pair right after first three games. Scratch Tournament on house shot. Winner - Total pins win, Prizes for 1-2-3 placements, Be respectful of dress code

The tournament will be hosted by Lindon Memorial Youth Challenge (Jim Land). Entry forms are available at Barney's Fun Center, 905 Campbellsville Rd, Columbia, Kentucky.

LWC women's cross country finishes 4th at CU Invitational

Campbellsville, KY - The Lindsey Wilson women's cross country team finished fourth at the Campbellsville Tiger Invitational Saturday at Green River Lake.

The Blue Raiders earned 75 points finishing just three points behind third place Campbellsville (Ky.). Cumberland (Tenn.) won the team title with 28 points and Dalton State (Ga.) finished in second with 55 points.

Melvin R. Salsman, 87, Green County, KY native

He proudly served his country in the United States Army having served in Korea. He was a retired from GE where he was a manager of information systems. He married Barbara Parson Salsman who survives.

Melvin R. Salsman of Louisville, son of the late Henry Salsman and Agnes Matherly Salsman, was born July 9, 1931, in Green County, Kentucky. He died Friday, September 14, 2018 in Louisville at age 87.

Private graveside services will be held at 1pmCT/2pmET Monday, September 17 at Campbellsville Memorial Gardens in Campbellsville by Rev. Earl West. Burial will be in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens.

Judy Cox, 72, Taylor County, KY (1946-2018)

Her hard work and civic mindedness lead to being named Woman of the Year by the Campbellsville BPW Club in 2007 and she was given the Campbellsville 4th of July Celebration President's award in 2009.
