Paul Peck to retire as LWC's Winningest Men’s Basketball coach

COLUMBIA, KY (Wed 6 Jun 2018) - Lindsey Wilson College men's basketball head coach Paul Peck, the college's all-time winningest men's basketball coach who led the Blue Raiders to national prominence on the court for 16 years, announced his retirement today, effective June 30.

During more than four decades in college coaching, which included 30 years as a head coach, Peck spent two stints at Lindsey Wilson.

Peck began his coaching career at Lindsey Wilson, coaching there from 1978-80. Peck returned to Lindsey Wilson in 2002, spending the last 16 seasons on the Blue Raiders' sideline.

Adair Co. High School Honor Roll for the 2017-2018 School Year

The Principal's Honor lists 108 students who have earned a weighted GPA of 4.0 or greater and the Honor Roll lists 144 students who have earned a weighted GPA between 3.50 and 3.99.

Because of the many opportunities now available to our students, such as dual credit and online courses, the most effective way to recognize students is at the end of the school year.

Chamber Annual Golf Tournament Thu 7 Jun 2018

The Chamber of Commerce annual Golf Tournament at The Pines of Lindsey Wilson, 275 Country Club Lane, will be held this Thursday, June 7, with a shotgun start at 1pmCT and a blind draw pairing with "A" players. All entries must be registered by 12:30pmCT. Entry fee is $30 per player with prizes for first, second and third place teams. You can bring your own team but will not be eligible for team prizes. There is also a $10,000 prize for the first Hole in One on hole number 15 and other prizes throughout the day brought to you by our many sponsors. A BOIL WATER ADVISORY is in effect for consumers of Columbia Adair Utilities District starting 4357-4566 Weed/Sparksville Rd., 7784-12036 Edmonton Rd. and all side roads between, Weed-Keltner Rd. and all side roads, and Keltnertown Rd. and all side roads.

The advisory has been issued due to main line break. Following such an event, the potential exists for bacteriological contamination of the water supply.

Donna Maness Briscoe, 64, Green County, KY (1954-2018)

She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a retired retail management worker.She was a native of Baton Rouge, LA, and a resident of Greensburg, KY, at the time of her death in Louisville, KY. She was the daughter of the late James Maness & Dorothy Maness. Her husband of 13 years, Terry Michael Briscoe survives. She leaves 28 direct and four step- living descendants.

Mrs. Donna Maness Briscoe of Greensburg, KY, formerly of Baton Rouge, LA, departed this life on June 5, 2018 at the Norton Hosparus Care Center in Louisville, KY.

Per the family's wishes, cremation was chosen. There will be a Celebration of Life Service held at a later date.

David Allan Abbott, 63, Burkesville, KY (1954-2018)

Dave was an outdoorsman, fisherman and a machinist by trade. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He was a native of Toledo, Ohio, and a resident of Burkesville, KY, at the time of his death in Burkesville. He was the son of the late Robert & Patricia Abbott. His wife, Teresa Abbott, survives. He leaves 27 direct and two step- descendants to carry on his legacy.

W KY man sentenced for federal archaeological violations

Offenses occurred in Mammoth Cave National Park and other locations. Tribal leader Ben Barnes, Second Chief of the Shawnee Tribe, of Miami, OK, disturbed, writes letter of concern for the desecration of hallowed remains of ancestors of Native Americans. Sentence meted for three felony violations is 15 months imprisonment. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Randy Ream. The investigation was conducted by the National Park Service Law Enforcement Division and the Bowling Green Resident Agency of the FBI.

U.S. District Court, Western District of Kentucky

LOUISVILLE, KY - (Wed 6 June 2018) - U.S. District Judge Greg N. Stivers sentenced Gary Womack, Age 60, from Woodburn, Simpson County, Kentucky, to 15 months imprisonment for 3 felony violations of the federal Archaeological Resources Protection Act (ARPA). Womack had previously pleaded guilty to the violations on March 8, 2018.

The case resulted from a three-year undercover investigation by the National Park Service, based upon allegations that Womack possessed human remains which originated from Mammoth Cave National Park. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) assisted Park Service agents throughout.

Congratulations to Gavin Giles in Kindergarten and Halynn Stargel in second grade from Adair County Primary Center for being drawn out of the ones who had perfect attendance during the second semester.

They are pictured in the accompanying photo with Paul Smith and Joe Flowers, local Shriners, on the last day of school, which was Friday, May 25, 2018.

The bicycles were donated by local Mark Twain Shrine Club/Kosair Shriners and the helmets were donated by J.O.Y. Ministries. - PG

My part was $724.18 plus some $800 my insurance paid for a ten day supply.
