Winners in the annual Valentine Pageant tonight at Campbellsville University were Cassie Emery, center, Queen; Maiya Henderson, right, first runner-up, and Rebekah Mobley, left, second runner-up. Emery represented Baptist Campus Ministry and is a junior from Cloverport, Ky. Henderson is a freshman from Bowling Green, Ky., and she represented the Black Student Association. Mobley is a sophomore from Elizabethtown, representing the Office of Enrollment Services. Emery will represent Campbellsville University in the annual Kentucky Mountain Laurel Festival in Pineville, Ky., May 24-27.

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY - Cassie Emery, a junior of Cloverport, KY, will represent Campbellsville University in the annual Kentucky Mountain Laurel Festival in Pineville, KY, May 24-27.

On Friday, February 9, 2018, Emery, who represented Baptist Campus Ministry, was crowned the 2018 Valentine Queen. Emery, along with five other young women, competed for the title during the 76th annual Valentine Pageant. The Student Government Association (SGA) was in charge of the pageant.s.

Mary Hortense Wright, 79, Greensburg, KY (1938-2018)

She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Grider Chapel United Methodist Church in Russell County, KY. She was born in Russell County, KY, and was a resident of Green County, KY, a the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late Garner & Cora Mann Garner, and the widow of Charles David Wright, 55 years. She leaves seven direct living descendants. She was also a machine operator for the former Jan Mar Company.

Adair Co. Grand Jury returns indictments 13 Feb 2018

Indictments brought against 11 individuals from Columbia, Jamestown, and Russell Springs, KY, on charges including manslaughter, assault, burglary, possession, trafficking, cultivation of marijuana, theft, and receipt of stolen property.

NOTE: Indictments are considered formal charges. An indictment is not a finding of guilt. An individual charged by indictment is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at some later criminal proceeding.

Shooting defendant arraigned in Marshall Co., KY Circuit Court

Kentucky State Police 1, Mayfield, KYBR>BR> BENTON, KY (Fri 16 Feb 2018) – Gabriel R. Parker, age 15, of Hardin, Kentucky, was arraigned in Marshall County Circuit Court on February 16, 2018.

A Marshall County Grand Jury returned an indictment on Tuesday, charging Parker with two counts of Murder and fourteen counts of First Degree Assault. The charges stem from the January 23 shooting at Marshall County High School.

August and September 1942 was a difficult time for America, and a time of inspiration--

The United States was at war with the Axis Powers as the summer of 1942 was coming to a close. Concern for the fate of the nation, and the world, was upon the hearts and minds of every citizen. Young men were being, or had already been, called up for service in the Armed Forces, and many more would be sent soon for examination. Patriotism ran high. The war was new for the Americans, already years-old for our Allies.

Traffic Alert: 1-75 six laning project starts Sun 18 Feb 2018

Widening to begin on the remaining portion of Interstate 75 in Rockcastle County this weekend will reduced to one lane in both directions. Speed limits in work zone reduced from 70mph to 55mph. Entire nine mile project may take until October 2020 to finish.

SOMERSET, KY (15 Feb 2018) - Motorists traveling on Interstate 75 in Rockcastle County will soon notice the extension of orange barrels as crews are set to begin construction this weekend to widen the remaining nine-mile section of roadway. The $80.9 million project, set to begin Sunday, February 18, KY, will widen the section of I-75 at mile points 55.7 to 64.5 in both directions from four lanes to six lanes.

We also continued our work on the state budget and road plan and passed a number of bills this week.

Kentucky: Unregistered machine gun possession alleged

Owensboro, Daviess KY, man faces additional charges for possessing unregistered machine guns and firearms. Indictment alleges 19 counts of possessing multiple types of firearms, including machine guns, short-barreled shotguns, short-barreled rifles, and silencers, that were not registered in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record.
Note: The indictment of a person by a Grand Jury is an accusation only and that person is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
