Day Trip: last of the snow found on Patty Ridge Road

2018-01-23 - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
The last of the snow that had halted activities and kept us all inside for two to three days, melted quickly when temperatures rose. Ed and I decided to go in search of the last of the snow and could only find it on scenic Patty Ridge Road in Russell County, in the ditch on the right, on the evening side of the hill where the sun had trouble reaching it. - LW. Letter: Remembering Robin Smith

Comments re: Robin Smith, Adair County, KY, (1956-2018). By Alice Smith Robinson

Robin was married to my brother Robert for 43 years. When they first married, Robin was a very quiet person; of course, Robert had 12 sisters so she didn't have much of a chance to talk, but after a few years she started talking like we all did.

Robin was one of the sweetest, kindest, loving persons I ever met. We all learned to love her so much. My brother loved her so much he told us many times that, when he heard her pull in their driveway from work, it was the happiest time of his life.

Kentucky Peace Officer Training Requirements

Some comprehensive information in response to Charles Marshburn: Training for Adair County Constables Click headline to view full requirements.

By Jason Rector
President/Chairman & Training Director

KY Constable Association, Inc.

Charles,

In regards to your inquiry relating to Training for Adair County Constables. Not all Adair County Constables attend and obtain trainings along with the same, not all Constables across the Commonwealth obtain training. As for accountability, they are elected officials and being elected by the people, they work for the people that elect them as any elected official.

To give you further specifics on Training for Constables, you can see below that they are exempt from training by statute, however the State Constable Association highly encourages Constables to obtain training. The State Constable Association also continues working with Kentucky Legislature to establish some basic training requirements for the position of Constable in the Commonwealth. Hopefully this answers your inquiry and please feel free to visit kentuckyconstableassociation.org or call 502-882-0522 if you have further questions or need more specifics.

People helping people - folks in this place care

Mitzi writes

It is heartwarming to see another person (name of other person is being tracked as this is written; we're needing a last name. - CM) putting out warm scarves around the square. The folks in Columbia and Adair County do care for others.

I started crocheting scarves in early December. Only my husband Ricky and my friend Jane Smith knew about what I was doing.

The scarves are nothing fancy, but I just hope that someone who was cold was helped.

When I hang this last one, with eight weeks of winter to go, I will have made and located a total of 57 scarves all around Columbia and Adair County. --Mitzi Bault

Comments re article 95163 William Turner Billy Bloyd Adair Co KY 19412018

By Billy Joe Fudge

Sadly, I did not make it by to pay my respects to Billy's family and friends. Billy was a very special individual. I suppose we could say that about most folks but he had always been a great friend of my family.

After Dad reached the point of not being able to do many things he had always done, Billy was always there for him and Mom. He would often bring them firewood and not even take any money for it. Of course, Mom would always whip up something in the kitchen to return the favor, so to speak.

Granny Nannie wants more info on government reports . . .

By Granny Nannie

When media outlets make reports, I'd like to see:
  1. On law enforcement automotive accidents - A listing of whether or not the driver's cell phone was in use at the time of the accident.
  2. On animal shelter reports- How many of what type of animal are adopted each and every month - not just a total number - at the animal shelters.
  3. On animal shelter reports - How many animals were euthanized at the animal shelter - each and every month.
- Granny Nanny

Thanks, Granny Nanny - perhaps media and reporting agencies will keep this in mind. We will, but we can't promise we can obtain it. Perhaps others have additional information they's like to see in news stories about government operations, and might make requests of candidates during this election cycle. - EW
