Billy Smythe, 82, Columbia, KY native (1935-2017) He was raised in the Columbia Baptist Church. He was a member of one of Adair County's leading families, the son of the late Leighton & Rachel Grissom Smythe. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, and an electrician at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He was a graduate of Columbia High School, a member of the last graduating class, 1953. Letter: Greensburg house was the house I grew up in Roger Rucker writes: This is the house I grow up in, My father Gerald Rucker bought this house after transferring to Green Co. from Adair with Taylor Co. RECC. The tan house just below it, just beside the lamp post, is the old Greensburg Academy were Mentor Graham taught school. Mentor Graham is credited with providing Abraham Lincoln’s formal education. Years later my father returned back to Adair Co. along with my brother, sister and myself.
