Adair Co. Grand Jury returns indictments 12 Dec 2017

Indictments brought against 14 individuals from Columbia, KY on charges including burglary, assault, possession, trafficking, DUI and murder.

NOTE: Indictments are considered formal charges. An indictment is not a finding of guilt. An individual charged by indictment is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at some later criminal proceeding.

Jimmie Dale Bennett, 74, Adair County, KY (1943-2017)

He was a member of Egypt Christian Church where he served as a Deacon and member of the Men for Christ. He was retired from IMO Industries. He had served his country in the United States Army and was an avid rabbit hunter. He was the patriarch of a leading Adair County, KY, family. He was the son of the late Frank and Lorena Coomer Bennett. His wife, Brenda Robertson Bennett, survives. He leaves eight direct living descendants.

Funeral service will be Sunday, December 17, 2017 at 1pmCT, at Egypt Christian Church, 4855 Knifley Road, Columbia, KY. Clergy officiating will be Bro. Paul Patton and Bro. Hugh Withers. Interment will be in Morris Chapel Cemetery, 87 Morris Chapel Road, Columbia, KY. Visitation will be after 3:30pmCT, Saturday, December 16, and after 7amCT Sunday until time for funeral service at the Egypt Christian Church.

ACPC Kindergarten Christmas Sing-A-Long - 8 Photo Album

The Adair County Primary Center recently had their Kindergarten Christmas Sing-A-Long. Students performed a special song with their class and then two songs with all kindergarten together. They were able to perform in two shows. One for the students in our building and the other for parents, community members, and other special people.

Edward Keith Olney, 56, Nancy, KY (1961-2017)

He was a Veteran of US. Army and will be accorded full military honors at committal rites. He was a native of Louisville, KY, and a resident of Nancy, KY, at the time of his death. He was the son of the Joyce Graves Olney and the late Carl G. Olney.

Evelyn Shuffett Johnson, Green County, KY (1920-2017)

During WWII, Evelyn was employed at the Louisville Medical Depot in the Post Engineer's Office, and as office manager at Crane Distributing Co. from 1948-1999. She was a member of Walnut Street Baptist Church for over 67 years, the Good News Sunday school class and the Jane Lampton Chapter of DAR. Her hobbies included; Bible study, gardening, sewing, cooking, traveling, family genealogy and collecting everything. Her last collection was rocks from all 50 states and many foreign countries. Many friends and family helped with this collection, especially Beth. She leaves eight direct living descendants.

The sad word of the passing of Jimmie D. Bennett has spread through the community following the news of his death as a result of an auto accident on Thursday, December 18, 2017. His wife, Benda Robertson Bennett, of Columbia, KY, and daughters Rhonda Loy and Jenifer Richerson are among survivors. Rhonda is Columbia City Clerk. Jenifer is Secretary of Campbellsville University School of Nursing. LIBERTY, KY - (Fri 15 Dec 2017) - Tpr. Zachary Scott is investigating a collision that occurred on Friday, December 15, 2017 at approximately 12:50amET on KY 837 in Casey County.

31-year-old Christopher C. Bennett, of Waynesburg, was operating a northbound 2003 Mercury Mountaineer when the vehicle dropped off the right shoulder causing Bennett to lose control of the vehicle. The vehicle jumped a culvert and overturned.

Bennett was transported to Ephraim McDowell in Danville for non life threatening injuries.

Tpr. Scott was assisted by Casey County EMS and the North Casey County Fire Department.

Two Western KY men fined for illegal trafficking in protected fish

During the course of this investigation, officers uncovered evidence of illegal interstate fish and wildlife activities into neighboring states. Kentucky Fish and Wildlife investigators worked cooperatively with Illinois Conservation Police officers to further investigate this activity. As a result, one of two men, Smart Fish Farm owner Melvin Taylor, was charged in Illinois and ordered to pay $5,000 in restitution.

COVINGTON, KY - (Thu 14 Dec 2017 - Matthew Wesley Shaffer, 39, of Walton, KY, was sentenced today, to 35 years in prison, by United States District Court Judge David Bunning. In August of 2017, Shaffer was convicted by a jury of two counts of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute it, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.
