KY Cabinet for Health and Family Services

FRANKFORT, KY - (Wed 22 Nov 2017) - Frying a turkey can be a fun and tasty alternative to the traditional baked dishes of the holidays. As many start to plan menus, the Department for Public Health (DPH), within the Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS), wants to remind Kentuckians that fryers - multi-use kettles used for deep frying foods - also can be dangerous when not handled with care. The safety promotion is part of DPH's ongoing 52 Weeks of Public Health Campaign.

What if you earn $20 a month but food costs stay the same?

Where will you be giving help on this Thanksgiving weekend? As we eat bountifully and then shop until we drop, will there be any extra to help to those in need?

By Linda Waggener

If your take-home income was $20 a month, and still groceries cost the same as they do here now, what would your Thanksgiving holiday be like? $20 is exactly what the minimum wage income is per month in Venezuela.

In the past year Venezuelans who can't afford food have lost an average of 19 pounds each -- in that same time Americans have gained a few pounds. This story is about an opportunity to help hungry families.

Remembering Kenny Absher: from his Mom, Viola Benaitis

He lived his life to his own liking

Viola Benaitis writes:
Thanks for the nice article you recently published concerning Kenny's life/death. The analogy of him was very accurate. He, like so few of us, certainly lived his life to his own liking and danced to his own music, was opinionated and outspoken, and didn't worry about whose toes he stepped on. May he rest in peace.
