Louise Butler: It's not the road

Louise Butler writes:
Opinions are personal viewpoint of the writer
It’s not the road! Wonder how many people have been killed on I-65 or I-75 or Bluegrass Parkway or Highway 210? Why do we need to blame the road for human error? Until and only until people become responsible defensive drivers there will continue to be people hurt or killed. There were many accidents on N 55 before it became Heartland Parkway and there wasn’t much said about it. It’s the drivers responsibility to have control of his vehicle at all times. We all need to quit being distracted and stay attentive to our driving. --Louise Butler

Letter: Agrees with Ed Darnell

Opinion expressed are from writer's viewpoint

Diana Long writes:
I totally agree with Ed Darnell on his matter. The changes made to 55 have hurt more then they have helped. When one life is lost on this road then it's going to be too late. I don't see what the need for the change in this road was all about, they have created more damage than good. This road was not over-crowded before they widened it and people passed others just fine.

I travel this road at least 5 times a week and have to make a left hand turn into a private residence while sitting in the passing/fast lane. There is hardly any room for a vehicle that decides to speed around the vehicles in front of him to get around when I'm sitting in the passing/fast lane to cross. It's a dangerous situation trying to watch your rear view mirror and the road ahead to cross all at the same time.

Whoever came up with this stupid idea needs to sit in this passing/fast lane when traffic is heavy and rethink what they have created. They have opened up an opportunity of speed and disaster. --Diana Long

JMC: No such thing as dangerous road - only dangerous drivers

Writer advocates actions: The state legislature needs to ban the use of any type -- and I do mean ANY type -- of electronic communication device while driving. And, as a heads-up type of thing, make it mandatory that all accident reports include whether or not a driver's cell phone was in use at the time of an accident.

By Joyce M Coomer
Opinions are personal viewpoint of the writer

I have always said that there is no such thing as a dangerous road -- only dangerous drivers. I drive, morning and afternoon, back and forth to work, on a curvy road. So far, I have never had the curve, when I am going left on it, suddenly change direction and curve to the right.

Writer says safety answer is to be 'road aware'

Lorne Holler
Opinions are personal viewpoint of the writer

This is my opinion only.

First off this is almost like guns, people blame the guns for killing people.

Guns don't do the killing the people operating them do the killing, thus highways don't kill, vehicle operators do.

Does someone have to be killed for KY 55 to be made safer?

By Ed Darnell

Mary Knight supportive of Gayle Harvey's pension comments

I just read Gayle's letter, and appreciate it very much - my first word was "enjoyed", but it is hard to "enjoy" learning about her friend's plight.

I've know Gayle, and her daughter, Missy, through Homemakers, for many years. I always thought she was pretty smart, very thoughtful and articulate, generous, good company, a darned good brownie maker, and, yes, "sophisticated."
