Miss Victoria makes weekly visit to FM2

2017-09-16 - Farmers Market on the Square, Campbellsville & Merchant Streets, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
Miss Victoria, of Miss Victoria's Pampered Angus Ranch paid her regular call on the Farmers Market on The Square, FM2, and reported on bird problems in Greater Bliss, where 19 Wild Turkeys invaded her Hunter Place over the Flat Woods and proved very bothersome to the registered guests, her girls, the pampered Angus of the name. That's New Townie Joe Hare, seated. He does not grow a garden, as traditional townies are supposed to do. Any advice for Mrs. Vickie's Bird Problem would be appreciated. Miss Vicky was most proud of her initiation of the lighting of Pinewood Shopping Center when she called a high ranking Kwik Lube officer, who, in turn called a high ranking Pinewood SC officer, and almost immediately the lights came on and a bit of vandalism her 'girls' and she had been observing came to a halt. Though one can get advice on almost everything at the farmers markets, Miss Victoria awaits advice on the wild turkey situation. - EW

Response to the Dehydrated Hedge Apple Queries

Robert Ellis writes:
I have an interest in the health aspect of the Hedge Apple. Published research papers on its attributes for specific testing, as well as results against various diseases can be found on the national institute of health dot gov website.

I would suggest anyone curious about any health benefits derived from consuming the Apple to FIRST look at those research papers as well as other internet websites for more information.

I might add that the University of Iowa published an article in 1997 (and is posted on the web) stating that they, as well as several other states have declared the hedge apple is non poisonous. - Robert Ellis

Doug Beard sends notes on 'Sour Mash' sitcom, bourbon terms

Doug Beard writes:
Just wanted to clarify that Bourbon can be made anywhere in the US as long as it conforms to federal guidelines. To Billy Joe's point, I would hope that the production would be done on location here in the Commonwealth as we are by far the largest producer of Bourbon. One extra note, all Bourbons are whiskey but not all whiskies are Bourbon. - Doug Beard

Charles Marshburn: Vidalia Rings a Bell!

Charles Marshburn writes
Whenever I hear "Vidalia" I think of a trip with a friend of mine to see the Master's Golf Tournament in Augusta, GA. Vidalia, GA, is a small town about the size of Columbia and is the center for growing the famous Vidalia onions.

My buddy, Pell, is famous in Georgia as being the only person who ever ordered wheat toast in that area. He is a former Californian and some say nobody from that state is "quite right".

Pell had the fantastic idea of stopping at a grocery store in downtown Vidalia to purchase a couple bags of the famous onions. There were none to be had! The produce fellow said that they ship almost all of the sought after onions to markets out of the area. - Charles Marshburn
