Kenny Absher comments on special meetings By Kenny Absher Personal commentary It was only last term and prior terms where we had government which was efficient in fulfilling their duly elected duties as our elected officials. Now our local government has become so inefficient that it can no longer function as what we elected the officials for. Nothing gets done, but special meetings and a hangnail is grounds. I look forward to our next election, Fortunately in Adair County we have been very fortunate in having teachers who loved us and taught us to our capacity and what to expect. I understand special meetings for taxes; but today it appears special meetings are called for a hangnail. One thing about this, this in my opinion and mine only but everyone I know feels likewise.--Kenny Absher 2017-09-06 15:34:56 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback
Knifley School Memories -- Arnold Veterans names corrected Laura White writes: On the front row, the fourth person from the left, is listed as Charles Arnold -- I believe that is Robert Arnold, older brother to Charles. Charles, who is my brother-in-law, was in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. Charles' brother, Robert Arnold, was in the US Military during WWII, I believe. I also knew Robert, and I believe the person shown is Robert, not Charles. I remember seeing Charles coming off a big silver airplane from the Korean Conflict when I was a little girl as vivid as if it was yesterday. --Laura WhiteComments re photo 21929 MEMORIES of KNIFLEY SCHO0L No 7 Knifley Veterans 2017-09-06 14:31:19 | Comments | Printable version

Responses are all included since every guess we've received has been exactly correct, on identity, but each respondent has its own special memories, starting with this one: Phyllis Curry, and continuing to include all the others: I was not there when this photo was made, but I certainly have wonderful memories of Coomer's Restaurant, Nell's Variety Store, Wooten's Department Store, Lerman's and the many businesses located around the square in this era. Coomer's Restaurant, the delightful Myrtle Coomer, mother of Bea, Berniece, and Norman, and wife of Haskin Coomer. I am pretty confident the customer is Willie Nell, owner of Nell's Variety Store.
