Murakami to add 20 jobs in Campbellsville

Automotive mirror systems supplier plans $2.7 million investment in Taylor County

By Woody Maglinger/Jack Mazurak

Murakami Manufacturing U.S.A. Inc., which makes automotive vision systems, will build a more than $2.7 million, 20 employee warehouse on its Taylor County campus.

Murakami will expand its current facility at 575 Water Tower Bypass in Campbellsville by 50,000 square feet to consolidate storage, increase manufacturing capacity and streamline product flow. In addition, the expected 20 hires will fulfill a total 50 new full-time jobs the company announced in a separate expansion project in 2014. The new construction will start in September with projected completion by March 2018.

Campbellsville Mayor Tony Young said the project is evidence of the company's dedication to the local workforce.

"We are so excited to have Murakami choose to expand and invest in Campbellsville again," Mayor Young said. "The new warehouse and distribution center expansion and additional jobs proves their commitment to our community. This is a welcomed addition to our local economy."

Taylor County Judge-Executive Eddie Rogers said Murakami is one of the community's most trusted employers.

"I welcome Murakami's expansion project and look forward to its positive impacts for our community," Judge Rogers said. "We are proud Murakami continues to serve North America from their Taylor County facility. Murakami has always been one of our top corporate citizens."

Adair, Russell, Casey now Zone 3 for bear hunting

Frankfort, KY - New information about bear hunting this year in Kentucky is now available through the Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources' website at fw.ky.gov.

The changes include the adoption of a three-zone approach to the management of the state's bear population. Adair, Russell, and Casey counties are Zone 3 for bear hunting, which include Chase-Only, Quoat Hunting with Dogs, and Muzzeloader seasons. Chase-Only hunting began on August 1, and runs through Sept. 30, 2017.

Season dates and quotas vary by zone. There is a new muzzleloader season and nonresident hunters can now buy bear permits. Hunters also will find season dates, quotas and a map of the bear zones in the updated section. Complete information is available in a 2-page Bear Hunting Addendum (PDF) to the Kentucky Hunting and Trapping Guide.

News from the Kentucky Department of Agriculture

FRANKFORT (Mon 14 Aug 2017) - Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles brought a little hope to Eastern Kentucky's less fortunate on Monday when he helped deliver freezers donated by Farm Credit Mid-America and CoBank to food pantries in five counties.

"Thanks to the generosity of these agricultural lenders, food pantries throughout the Commonwealth will be able to accept donations of meats and other frozen foods," Commissioner Quarles said. "This will enable the food pantries to help their clients get the proteins they need for a healthy, balanced diet. This is a giant step in the mission of the Kentucky Hunger Initiative to seek solutions to chronic food insecurity in Kentucky."

Billy Joe Fudge comments on Day trip story: Westfork Road . . .

Comments re article 92170 Day trip Westfork to Gibson to Greenbriar to Independence Ridge Rd

Billy Joe Fudge writes:
The small tree with thick, black-green leaves and red drupes liken unto Dogwood drupes was Carolina Buckthorn, most likely.

Additionally, all loads on West Fork Creek Road and Gibson Hill are "wide loads"!

Also, we should not forget that West Fork Creek is actually "West Fork of Crocus Creek." -Billy Joe Fudge -
Thanks! We'll be making changes on the cutlines - and linking more photos to the story. And, you are right, all loads on Westfork Road are wide ones - the road is narrow. - E.W.
