Odell Baker, 74, Adair County, KY (1942-2017)

He was a member of the Wells Chapel Baptist Church. He was employed for many years as a backhoe operator for Garrison Construction and was retired from the Columbia Utilities Commission. He was an avid University of Louisville basketball fan. He also enjoyed his grandchildren and hunting and fishing. He was a member of a large, well respected family. She was the son of Oscar & Mary Pearl Nelson Baker. His wife, Celystine Stotts Baker, survives. He leaves eight direct living descendants, spanning three generations.

Odell Baker, 74 of Columbia, KY passed away Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at 3:35 AM at his home after several years illness.

Funeral service will be Thursday, August 17, 2017 at 1pmCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY. Clergy officiating will be Rev. Doug Copas and Rev. Charles Dulin. Interment will be in the Fudge Cemetery, 847 Independence Road, Breeding, KY The family will receive visitors after 3:30pmCT, on Wednesday, August 16, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.



Odell Baker, 74, Adair County, KY (1942-2017)


He was born October 16, 1942 near Sparksville, Adair County, KY. He was the son of the late Oscar & Mary Pearl Nelson Baker. He died Tuesday, August 15, 2017, in Columbia, Adair County, KY, at the age of 74 years, nine months, and 30 days.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Edith Brown; one brother, Russell Baker; and by two grandchildren, Joshua Reed Moss and Britney Burris.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Celystine Stotts Baker of Columbia, KY, and the following:
  • Two daughters: Pam Burris and husband Justin of Greensburg, KY; and Cathy Moss and husband Reed of Columbia, KY

  • One son: Steven Baker and wife Gina of Columbia, KY

  • One brother: Ronnie Baker of Chance, KY

  • Three sisters: Ruby Rodgers of Columbia, KY; Becky Bean of Louisville, KY; and Tena Fudge of Breeding, KY

  • Four grandchildren: Ryan Burris, Jordon Moss, Erin Whitlock, and Keisha Bryant

  • One great grandchild: Ellison Burris

  • Several nieces and nephews

  • Other relatives and a host of friends
Mr. Baker was a member of the Wells Chapel Baptist Church, was employed for many years as a backhoe operator for Garrison Construction and was retired from the Columbia Utilities Commission. He was an avid University of Louisville basketball fan, he also enjoyed his grandchildren and hunting and fishing.
