Funeral service will be Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at 11amCT, at Ballou & Stotts Funeral Home, 304 N Main Street, Burkesville, KY with burial in Smith Cemetery. Family requests visitation on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 from 5pmCt until 9pmCT at Ballou & Stotts Funeral Home.

Adair County PRIDE Cleanup Day is Sat 29 Apr 2017

Deputy CJE hoping to have insect repellant, sunscreen available for teams volunteering for the big cleanup event two weeks from today.

Adair County, the City of Columbia, and Lindsey Wilson College are teaming up to lead Pride cleanup day on at 7amCT, Saturday, April 29, 2017. Clubs, organizations, churches and individuals are invited to pick your area for cleanup and then pre-register at the office of the Adair County judge executive, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY.

Safety vests, gloves, and trash bags will be provided to each team. Registration on the day of the event starts at 7amCT. Adair County Deputy Judge Executive Andrea Waggener is also checking the budget to see if bug repellant and sunscreen may be provided. Phone 270-384-4703 for more details.

Monnie Buttram Whittle, Russell Co., KY/Scott Co., TN native (1941-2017)

She was the matriarch of a large, highly regarded family and leaves 31 direct living descendants. She was the daughter of the late Archie & Alta Griffin Buttram, and the widow of Leslie Earl "Tuger Bill" Whittle, her husband of a remarkable 59 years, who preceded her in death just slightly over one year ago.

Visitation will be 5pm-8pmCT, Wednesday, April 19, 2017, and after 8amCT, Thursday. Interment will be in the McBeath Cemetery, Russell County, KY. Fishing for trout from a chair by the Cumberland River

The red folding chair near the edge of the wide Cumberland River at the Banks Street boat ramp caught my eye. It turned out to belong to Mr. Carl Carey, a friendly, knowledgeable, lifetime fisherman. He patiently stopped for a brief visit while keeping an eye on his two lines that disappeared in the swirling currents about 20-30 feet out in the water.

For those not so familiar with the Cumberland River boat ramp just a few blocks from the square in Burkesville, it was hard to know if the red folding chair at the water's edge were occupied, by whom, and just why.

For most in the community, most who use the Banks Street ramp, and those fortunate enough to know the man in the chair, they know that some intense and highly productive action - almost in slow motion - is going on here, and there are frequent changes of scene.

Edna L. Gunsaules, 88, Mannsville, KY (1928-2017)

She was a retired secretary at Hunterdon School in New Jersey. She professed faith in Christ and attended Mannsville United Methodist Church. She was a native of Union County, NJ, and a resident of Taylor County, KY, at the time of her death in Marion, County, KY. She was the widow of George Gunsaules, Sr., her husband of 51 years. She leaves two direct living descendants.
