Personal commentary

One day this week, I went to IGA to get lunch and returned downtown via Hurt St. to Guardian St. to Burkesville St. then around the square to Monroe St. Three times -- you read that right -- three times I was nearly hit head-on by drivers on Hurt St. who apparently were paying no attention at all to the width of the road nor if anyone else was on the roadway. And this was just from Willis St. to Guardian Street . . .

On planting flowers : a word-list sonnet

On planting flowers
by Robert Stone
I helped my mother plant some tulips once,
we stationed them along a front yard walk,
no care how hard the ground might mark us dunce,
kaleidoscope of colors was our talk.

No collywobbles were disturbing peace,
some tinkles might have been but far away,
no excise cost excising dirt's release,
when ripping stubborn dirt caused skin to fray,

Those tulips came up year by year to bloom
and slightly raised our station gardenwise
but care was lacking meaning most met doom
until kaleidoscope was mono-prize.

Sometimes I ruminate on planting flowers
but finger aches from yesteryear have powers.

~ Robert Stone, 30 March 2017
Word List: tulip - station - care - kaleidoscope - collywobbles - tinkle - excise - rip - ruminate - yesteryear

These ten words were chosen by the audience at the February meeting, Poetry in the Boro, Murfreesboro

We are pleased to be serving and producing Christian servant leaders throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the world. Campbellsville University is rapidly becoming the institution that was envisioned eight years ago when our Board of Trustees established Vision 2025.
