Card of Thanks

Your support and prayers have lifted us after such a tragedy

Our community has lost one of its most loved members with the death of Kim Woodcock. We have all shared many memories of her in our lives. Kim's work as a barber touched so many people in our area. Everyone has a story which includes Kim. Her dedication to her patrons, opening the shop early, or staying late - always with smile and cheerful nature - has been recounted by so many folks.

I would like to thank everyone for their outpouring of concern for me and all the people who loved her. The calls, gifts, visits, and special remembrances shared in the barbershop where she spent so much of her last 14 years have all meant so much to Chris and me that we want to say thanks to you, our community. Your support and prayers have lifted us after such a tragedy so that we can try to go on as Kim would have wanted us to.

We will all Miss Kim. Our lives will forever be touched by her passing our way.

Respectfully, Wid Harris

David Upchurch. Ben & David need belated revenge. Go Indians!

David Upchurch writes:
Yes, Ben - Clem Haskins and his Cards broke our hearts that year! People who played in that game know what a war it really was! As for me (point guard and play maker on that Indian team) I remember it like it was yesterday!!! Harry and I went to Freedom Hall and watched the entire Sweet 16 . It was almost too hard to watch sometimes because Adair Co. had beaten five of the teams that made the Sweet 16; so yes, Ben and David need this belated revenge > Go INDIANS --David Upchurch

Calls for victory over Taylor County to get even with Clem!

Ben Arnold writes:
So impressed with the Adair Co Indians, just outstanding! Brings back memories from over half a century ago; same situation Adair in Regional final against Taylor Co, the winner going to the State. Angela Loy Cook just posted this morning a photo of me and Harry Loy (her much loved father). Harry was our leader and best player and we were up against the great Clem Haskins of Taylor. The game tonight reminds me of some details. Because of their focus on Harry I got more shots than usual I think. In the last minute I missed 2 shots I should have hit and we lost by 3 points! I need revenge, so boys get them tonight! Later I shared with Clem that had i hit those shots it might have had an important impact on both of us and not for the good. He would have missed his exposure at the State and I might have over interpreted our success and missed Centre College. I still have Harry's note in my Annual, "when you graduate from Centre you will have more than Clem". Harry was a great guy and so many miss him. --Ben Arnold

WKU meteorology students survey tornado damage near campus

Bowling Green, KY - On March 1, a powerful storm system swept across the region, which produced 11 tornado, 590 high wind and 108 severe hail reports. Among the 11 reported tornadoes, one touched down just 10 miles southeast of WKU at 7:24 a.m. and produced a swath of property and tree damage along the 12000 block of Cemetery Road.

"Any severe weather event that produces reports of damages or causalities, the National Weather Service will attempt to arrive at the location of these incidents relatively quick to conduct a forensic survey to determine specific meteorological causes of the given outcomes," said Dr. Josh Durkee, Associate Professor of Meteorology and Climate Science and Director of White Squirrel Weather.

John Gordon, Meteorologist in Charge at the National Weather Service in Louisville, coordinated a storm damage survey effort with the Warren County Emergency Management office, meteorology colleagues at WKU, and WxOrNotBG on March 2.

"The Meteorology Program at WKU has a fantastic working relationship with the NWS-Louisville office," Dr. Durkee said. "When I realized the NWS was visiting Bowling Green to conduct field research on a tornado event on the same day I teach my two upper-level meteorology courses, I knew I had to get my students involved. Thankfully, John Gordon was excited to have us on board."
