She was a retired employee of Fruit of the Loom in Campbellsville, KY. She was a member of Southside Christian Church. She a member of a highly regarded Adair County family, born the daughter of Elmer Ellis & Amanda "Susie" Brockman. She was preceded in death by her three husbands: Alton Ellis in death in 1965, Robert Beard in 1981, and Ervin Kilby on December 1, 2002.

Delorus (Dee) Murphy Campbell, 88, Casey Co., KY (1928-2016)

She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Delorus worked for several years at our local Walmart Store and enjoyed sewing, painting, sculpting, watching hummingbirds and gardening. At one time, she taught in a one-room schoolhouse in Kentucky. Delorus was always young at heart and very "crafty." She was the daughter of the late Herman & Elisie Brown Murphy and the widow of the late Charles Wyane Campbell. She leaves 15 direct living descendants. Her final resting place will be in her ancestral Casey County, KY.

CU professor Hansford to give lecture on human trafficking

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY – Campbellsville University professor of social work Dr. Candace Hansford will discuss human trafficking at a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) lecture Thursday, December 8, 2016 at 5pmCT/6pmET in the CU Banquet Hall of the Badgett Academic Support Center at 10 University Drive, Campbellsville, KY.

Hansford said the title is of her talk is "Are our lifestyles fueling the demand of human trafficking?" She will be discussing how some of the choices and actions we make really do impact and feed into the demand of human trafficking – both sex and labor trafficking.

Wreaths Across America event, Lebanon National Cemetery

Wreaths Across America's Lebanon Kentucky Ceremony will serve as part of a series of events designed to raise awareness and appreciation for the sacrifices of our nation's veterans and their families. The Lebanon ceremony will take place on Saturday, Dec. 17th, 2016, at 12noonET in the Lebanon National Cemetery, 20 Highway 208, Lebanon, KY.

The ceremonies take place in most of the 50 states and Washington, D.C., and have a particular focus on family during the holidays. Volunteers conduct the local ceremonies each year in their respective National Cemeteries. Dignitaries and special guests are invited to speak in honor of our veterans and active military. The wreath-laying ceremonies are nonpolitical. All groups and members of the community are invited to attend.

In a surprise announcement to the City Council during the citizens comments period of the December meeting, Barbara Armitage said she had been in discussion with the mayor and city clerk and a decision had been made that the Farmers Market on the Square would move from their site in front of the Adair County Courthouse Annex to the City owned parking lot at the corner of Merchant & Campbellsville Streets across from City Hall.

JOY Ministries asks for help for local homeless families

This ministry asks for pledges of $5 per month from all the families above the poverty line to provide help with rent, utilities, shelter, food, clothing and toiletries to residents in our area living on the edge of homelessness or already in a state of homelessness. Pick up a "Families for $5" pledge card on the square or at the Adair County Public Library.

There are many ways to share with others in need, but J.O.Y. Ministries is making an appeal which directly helps Adair County families. It is also a support base for the churches of Adair County which frequently are the first to know of an individuals’ need for help.

J.O.Y. Ministries has announced their Families for $5 Campaign to run through January, 2017. Director of Finances, Maggie Coleman, says, "We are hoping to raise $450 more per month in income to cover the demand for help from those in crisis during the winter months. We will use the money to provide help with rent, utilities, shelter, food, clothing and toiletries to residents in our area living on the edge of homelessness or already in a state of homelessness."
