First day of Fairgrounds dismantling project off to good start

It's a huge undertaking, but if the first day is any indication, moving the fairgrounds is going to happen, before the January 1, 2017 deadline. Volunteers with strong backs and tool kits, contractors and businesses with equipment, are needed today and next Saturday for the effort to succeed.

Why are riding mowers, ATVs banned from public roadways?

Joyce Coomer writes:
I have a question

If recumbent bicycles which are very hard to see and move slowly, along with tractors which are large enough to see easily but also slow-moving, are allowed on public roadways, why are ATVs and the larger riding mowers (which move around the same speed as tractors) banned from public roadways?

- Joyce M. Coomer
Thanks, Joyce M. Coomer - The question is above our pay grade, but perhaps a reader will know the answer. - EW

BJF sends complete Helen Hunt Jackson September poem

Remember, poetry is written to be read aloud. Enjoy... - BJF

September poem
By Helen Hunt Jackson (1830-1885)
The golden-rod is yellow;
The corn is turning brown;
The trees in apple orchards
With fruit are bending down.

The gentian's bluest fringes
Are curling in the sun;
In dusty pods the milkweed
Its hidden silk has spun.

The sedges flaunt their harvest,
In every meadow nook;
And asters by the brook-side
Make asters in the brook.

From dewy lanes at morning
The grapes' sweet odors rise;
At noon the roads all flutter
With yellow butterflies.

By all these lovely tokens
September days are here,
With summer's best of weather,
And autumn's best of cheer.

But none of all this beauty
Which floods the earth and air
Is unto me the secret
Which makes September fair.

Tis a thing which I remember;
To name it thrills me yet:
One day of one September
I never can forget.
"September" by Helen Hunt Jackson, submitted by Billy Joe Fudge.
