Trees, limbs down around county after 27 Aug 2016 storm

(A note on the all important Mark Twain Marching Band Exhibition: Most people know about the band and know this - but those who didn't and are wondering about it. Band competitions are rarely cancelled because of weather. Those in attendance just take shelter until the storm passes over, then the competition continues. That's what the crowd at Indian Stadium did, taking shelter in Adair County High School. The program then picked up where it left off, Trilby Vance reminded us.)

Mike Keltner, Adair County Emergency Disaster Director, said in a telephone interview at 6:30pmCT, Saturday, August 27, 2016, that he is receiving information of trees and limbs down all over northern Adair County.

Among the areas hit hardest, he said, are Vester, Holmes Bend Road, and Hutchison-Loy Road. He said no flooding issues yet, but warned motorists be careful in the low lying areas which are prone to flooding.

Anon advises on 'Eggs' found on tomato hornworm

They're actually larvae of the good guys, the Brachnoid wasp

Anon writes:
The "eggs" were actually the larvae of the Brachonid wasp, a tiny, *non-stinging* natural predator of the hornworm (colloquially known as the tomato worm). See.

From the above link: "These attacked [i.e., larvae-carrying] hornworms will have little effect on your plants, so leave them and let the wasps carry out their life cycle." - Anon

Maury Lewis writes:
I did an experiment of my own today. I was working on the tomato plants and found what we call a big green tomato worm with I guess white eggs hanging all over her. I put some vinegar in a jar and raked her in it, she wiggled a few times and stopped.

If any one out in columbiamagazine land wants to try pickled tomato worm or pickled tomato worm eggs just let me know. melewi --Maury Lewis
