Mystery lavender plant is noxious, invasive species

Identification about: -Wildflowers of KY: Help needed to ID pretty lavender flower

Cynthia A. Meyer, Sycamore Springs, writes:
The plant in question looks a bit like Spotted Knapweed. If you look up Knapweed on Google, "Centaurea is a genus of between 350 and 600 species of herbaceous thistle-like flowering." The words "invasive" and "noxious" tend to pop up, even to the point where Knapweed hit the Top 10 Noxious Weeds list in some areas. Seems bees love it, and it is a good ground builder, it even has some medicinal herbal properties. However as with any herbal therapy it is prudent to consult your family physician first. Cynthia A.
