Election May 2016: Absentee vote low; Clerk projects 17% vote By Ed Waggener Adair County Clerk Lisa Greer thinks that even the low project 2016 primary election by Secretary of State Allyson Grimes - 20% - will be high for today's Adair Primary. "I am going to guess 17% for Adair County," she said. She said she is basing that on reports from the 16 polls today, which report low activity and no incidences or problems, "Except boredom. They all say it's been terribly boring." And she's basing it on absentee turnout. At the close of the day yesterday, a total of 75 had voted on the absentee voting machine in the clerk's office and only 143 of the 153 paper absentee ballots have been returned as of 3:30pmCT, today, Tuesday, May17, 2016, for a 228. The actual tabulation will be announced shortly after the polls close at 6pmCT. 2016-05-17 15:58:31 | Comments | Printable version

Jon Halsey sends answer to BJF question about 'rectifier' But answer is in Californian, not spoken so much in Knifley, KY, where there is, a present, no available translator at the UK Round Table. None at any of the usual Free Translation service. Doe anyone in the 7-County area speak Californian? - CM Comments re article 83204 Billy Joe Fudge has question on rectifer in City ABC ordinance By Jon Halsey Here is one answer to BJ's query. It is from the California Dept of Alcohol Beverage Control Board and like most things Californian it might cause one to utter: Huh?: "RECTIFIER - This type of license is frequently referred to as a "distilled spirits rectifier's license," which is incorrect since the license also permits the rectification of wine. This licensee is authorized to cut, blend, rectify, mix, flavor and color distilled spirits and wine upon which excise tax has been paid and, whether rectified by the licensee or another person, to package, label, export and sell the products to persons holding licenses authorizing the sale of distilled spirits (Sections 23016 and 23368). This licensee may sell distilled spirits and wine without the need for any other license, but he/she may not sell wine to a person who does not hold a license that also authorizes the sale of distilled spirits. A rectifier may also elect to function as a distilled spirits wholesaler, but when doing so, he/she must comply with all of the provisions applicable to a distilled spirits wholesaler (Section 23371)." - Jon Halsey 2016-05-17 12:05:02 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback

PAC chair questions Magistrates about Restrictive ABC ordinance PAC chair says five magistrates who voted against Sunday sales in the county should reconsider their votes; she says their actions are tax revenue problems for county; may mean more territory will be annexed to the city unless magistrates reconsider decision By Shannon Sexton Personal Commentary When will the county folks be receiving their 15% property tax refund? I assume the County is rolling in money since our Fiscal Court has turned down the opportunity to allow Sunday sales thus far. Last evening the Columbia City Council had the first reading of their ABC Ordinance which includes Sunday sales. I applaud the City of Columbia for listening to the voters and paving the way for attracting new business and retaining what they already have. Unfortunately, those of us that reside in the county are facing the same stalemate we’ve had the privilege of facing for decades. Billy Joe Fudge has question on rectifer in City ABC ordinance Billy Joe Fudge writes: Well, once again CM with the aide of the Columbia City Council's ABC ordinance has expanded my vocabulary with the use of the word "rectifier". I now understand the contextual usage in that a "rectifier" is 1. "a worker who blends or dilutes whiskey or other alcoholic beverages\ or 2. "an apparatus for condensing a hot vapor to a liquid in distillation". My question is: does the word in context of the ordinance apply to both definitions and are these definitions politically correct terminology for 1. a bartender or mixologist and 2. a still? - Billy Joe FudgeComments re article 83201 Columbia City Council has 1st reading of ABC ordinance 2016-05-17 10:44:38 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback
