Robert Cumming: Stories of cave-like opening near Top of Arch Robert Cumming writes: Creelsboro native Danny Buster has mentioned to me on visits to the top of Rock House that old-timers used to speak of a small, cave-like opening called the "sheep house" on the river side along the ridge near the top of the arch. Indians were supposed to use it and it was hard to get to. We've looked for it but never found evidence of it --Robert CummingComments re photo 65880 Rock House Revisit A short pause to take in the view 2016-04-12 19:47:18 | Comments | Printable version

JIM: Improved pike to Campbellsville cut time to 1 hr 10 min Jim writes: This recent photo of work on the Heartland Parkway near Columbia brought to mind an entry from the "Locals" column in the Adair County News just over 100 years ago (March 22, 1916): "The pike from [Columbia] to Campbellsville is in better condition than for many years in the past. Autos make the trip in one hour and ten minutes."In 1916, the Columbia-Campbellsville pike was still privately owned and maintained. The speed implied in the passage above -- some 17 miles an hour -- surely seemed like the wind itself to travelers. The same trip via nonmotorized hack lasted three hours under the best of conditions and generally took longer, sometimes considerably longer. --Jim Comments re photo 65802 Heartland Parkway work underway in Adair 2016-04-12 07:57:10 | Comments | Printable version
