By Carol Perkins

Guy and I were watching a Hallmark Classic Thanksgiving/Christmas special last weekend. You know the ones where families gather for a huge meal around a dining room table and are joyously happy? Grandpa is at the head of the table and raises a glass of sweet tea to toast to the meaning of Christmas and family. Little kids sit mannerly next to their parents rather than at a different table, and no one has a cell phone.

Gov. Beshear Legacy: A Kentucky Stronger at Its Core

Governor Steve Beshear ends a brilliant term as Kentucky's Governor, leaving a Kentucky never prouder, never seen as more progressive than now. On December 8, Kentucky has a new Governor, who will do things differently, but, one can believe, a practical one who will build - we hope surpass - on the legacy he will inherit, in the same bipartisan manner as Governor Beshear used to position Kentucky in bright new light. Indications now are that that will happen. The summary below is, word-for-word, the Beshear Administration's own statement of it's accomplishments. - CM

From Governor Steve Beshear's Communications Office

Focus on health, education, workforce will pay off over generations

FRANKFORT, KY (Tue 17 Nov 2015) - Governor Steve Beshear summed up the impact of his eight years as Kentucky's chief executive today with a single phrase: A stronger core.

"Generations from now, Kentucky will be more competitive economically and our people will have a higher quality of life because of the hard work we've been doing to strengthen Kentucky's core," Gov. Beshear said.

The Governor said he came to Frankfort in late 2007 determined to restore the people's trust in state government, to bring common sense to an out-of-control state budget, and to end the acrimonious partisan warfare that was interfering with good decisions.
