Norma Jean Lostutter, 81, Russell Co., KY (1933-2015)

She was a native of Jennings County, IN, and a resident of Russell County, KY, at the time of her death. She was the daughter of late Gilbert & Stella Kinder. Her husband Howard Lostutter, survives. She leaves four direct living descendants. She was a Registered Nurse and a member of Russell Springs First Baptist Church.

No. 1 Lindsey Wilson Football returns home to face Cumberlands

Columbia, KY – The No. 1-ranked Lindsey Wilson football team is back in action this weekend as they return home for the first time since September 19, 2015, to face Cumberlands (KY) on Saturday, at 12pmNoonCT at Blue Raider Stadium, 928 Russell Road, Columbia, KY. Lindsey Wilson is coming into the weekend with a record of 4-0 after they defeated Union (KY) on the road, 42-17. The Blue Raiders trailed 10-0 after the end of the first quarter, but scored 42 unanswered points to take a 42-10 lead. The Bulldogs scored late in the fourth quarter, but Lindsey Wilson came away with the victory.

Fire Causes Temporary Closure of Lodge and Restaurant at Greenbo Lake

Greenup, KY. - The lodge and restaurant at Greenbo Lake State Resort Park will likely be closed through the remainder of 2015 for repairs in the wake of a fire on Sunday morning.

The park's campground and marina will remain open.

There were no injuries during the fire, which apparently began in the basement of the lodge. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.

Nathaniel Taylor, 87, Russell Co., KY (1928-2015)

He was a native of Jamestown, KY, and a resident of the county at the time of his death. He was the son of the late Christine (Simpson) and Elmer Taylor. He leaves four direct living descendants. He served in the U.S. Army and will be accorded full military honors at comital services.

Jamestown becomes newest Kentucky Trail Town

Jamestown is the eighth certified Kentucky Trail Town, and the first in the CM 7-county area to earn the designation. It joins Dawson Springs, Livingston, Morehead, Olive Hill, London, Stearns and Elkhorn City as official Kentucky Trail Towns.

Jamestown, KY - (Mon 5 Oct 2015) - The community of Jamestown is an official "Trail Town" thanks to its connections to water and land recreation, Tourism, Arts and Heritage Secretary Bob Stewart announced today.

"With Lake Cumberland, the Cumberland River and a beautiful state resort park all nearby, Jamestown is an ideal place for a Trail Town," Stewart said. "There are plenty of outdoor activities available to visitors here, and Jamestown is already known as a popular tourist destination."

Loy to serve on board of KY Organ Donor Awareness Program

Dennis Loy, Circuit Court Clerk of Adair County, has been selected to serve as a member of the Board of Directors of the Kentucky Circuit Court Clerks' Trust For Life. Created by Kentucky's Circuit Court Clerks in 1992, the Trust For Life is a statewide 501c(3) non-profit organization that informs, educates, and encourages Kentuckians to register as organ & tissue donors to save lives.

"With nearly 1000 Kentuckians on the waiting list for a lifesaving organ transplant, the need is greater than ever," explains Loy. "Today, more than 1.6 million Kentuckians are registered on the Kentucky Organ Donor Registry, but we are working to reach 2 million."

Adam Harris arraigned in Adair District Court

Adam Harris, charged with Assault, 1st Degree, was arraigned before Adair County District Judge Michael Loy today. The defendant entered a plea of not guilty. A hearing is scheduled for 10amCT, October 14, 2015.

He is to be appointed a public defender. Adam Harris is being held without bond in the Adair Regional Jail. Court Documents indicate that he is considered a "danger to himself and others" and because of "erratic behavior while in custody."

Taylor County Grand Jury returns indictments Fri 2 Oct 2015

Indictments brought against 11 individuals, including residents of Taylor, Marion, Adair counties. Charges include theft by unlawful taking, rape, sodomy, fleeing police, wanton endangerment, possession of controlled substance, and burglary.

NOTE: Indictments are considered formal charges. An indictment is not a finding of guilt. An individual charged by indictment is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at some later criminal proceeding.

TJ Regional proposes acquisition of Westlake Regional Hospital

On October 5, 2015, officials from T.J. Regional Health announced that T.J. Regional Health of Glasgow, Kentucky is making a proposal to acquire and operate Westlake Regional Hospital and its clinics, the healthcare facility that is owned and operated by Adair County Public Hospital Corporation and Adair County Hospital District and located in Columbia, Kentucky. The Corporation and the Hospital District are in Chapter 9 bankruptcy proceedings in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Kentucky. The proposed acquisition is contingent upon multiple factors, including reaching certain agreements with creditors, confirmation of a Chapter 9 bankruptcy plan by the Bankruptcy Court and receipt of approvals from state and federal healthcare regulators.

Columbia KY (Monday 5 Oct 2015) - 19-year-old Adam Harris, of Columbia, was arrested on Saturday, October 3, at approximately 10amCT and charged with Assault 1st Degree. Harris was arrested on Keen Wilson Road, Columbia, KY, after an argument with his father, 55-year-old Michael Harris led to a physical altercation.

The 2015 county tax bills are now due and payable. If you do not receive your bill in the next few days, please contact the County Sheriff's Office. When mailing your payment, please include your copy of the tax bill or put the tax bill number on your check. If you wish a paid receipt returned to you, please enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope. The following are the collection dates:
  • 2% Discount - October 1, 2015-November 2,2015
  • Face Amount - November 3, 2015-December 31, 2015
  • 5% Penalty - January 01, 2016-February 01, 2016
  • 21% Penalty - February 02, 2016-April 15, 2015
Under the provisions of House Bill 262,the advertisement and sale of delinquent property tax bills has been transferred from the sheriff's office to the county clerk's office. Instead of advertising the delinquent bills and conducting a tax sale, the sheriff's office is now required to transfer the delinquent property tax bills to the county clerk's office as of the close of business on April 15,2015. Lake Road, Taylor County, temporarily closed 6-8 Oct 2015

Green River Lake, KY - Due to needed road repairs, a portion of Lake Road in Taylor County, KY will be closed October 6-18, 2015. The section of Lake Road between KY 55 and Site 1 Boat Ramp will be closed to thru traffic on those dates.

Impact to traffic flow will occur on the souther entrance from KY 55 onto Lake Road with the road being closed to all thru traffic. All facilities and recreation areas around the Green River Lake Visitor Center and Dam will remain open and motorists are advised to access the area via the northern entrance from Hwy 1061 or Soule Chapel Road.

Pat Hare, 73, Adair County, KY (1941-2015)

She was a member of a highly respected Adair County, KY family. She was the daughter of the late Owen and Lillie Wooldridge Wright. Her husband, Joe Hare, survives. She leaves seven direct and six step living descendants. Pat was a retired medical secretary, a member of Shiloh Christian Church, VFW Post 6097 Auxiliary and the Patriot Guard Riders.
Pat Hare, 73, of Columbia, Kentucky, died Sunday, October 4, 2015 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, KY.

Funeral service will be Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at 11amCT at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY. Burial will be in Haven Hill Cemetery, 1276 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY. Visitation after 5pmCT, Tuesday, October 6, 2015.
