Clarification on date of Pope John Paul II's writing

jon halsey writes:
OOPS! Paging thru all of the various popes lengthy encyclicals on Human Sexuality in addition to Pope John Paul II's special addresses on the topic, I muddled the dates. He was the author of Evangelism Vitae (The gospel of Life) but it was March 25, 1995, not 1965.

New Adair County Schools sign on Veterans Bypass

2015-09-07 - Indian Drive & Adair County Veterans Bypass, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener .
Knifley Masons take advantage of Labor Day's sunny weather to bring the new "Adair County Schools" entrance sign closer to completion. Above, Gerald Lucas, left, and Mark Jones, were working atop the Gibraltar-symbolic base, "A symbol in itself of the goals Adair County student have for themselves on completion of High School - to be both college ready and career ready," on entrance signs with a lot more college-influence than is at first apparent. The signs are being built with Lindsey Wilson College's assistance and a borrowed LWC look. The brick and stone masons also worked on the LWC monumental entrance signs and LWC's Plant Operations Director, Mike Newton, collaborated with Adair County School District Maintenance Director David Jones to help get the most value for the dollar. Similar signs can cost in the neighborhood of $25-40,000 each. The Adair County signs are being built for a total of around $6,000 each - and for economic development considerations - much of that is Adair County labor and local consumption of materials. Supt. Reed said that for costpoint comparison, some of the some of the metal signs on the campus have cost $8,000 and more. Both this sign and the Greensburg Street & Indian Drive one should be complete in a matter of days, if the weather holds.

Best Birthday Ever: You should have seen the look on his face

'COLUMBIA, WHERE GREAT PEOPLE STILL EXIST' - When her son, Jimmy George, begged for a bike for his birthday, Jean George was determined to find one, even though finances for the nine-member family - seven children, mother and father - would be stretched to buy any bike. She did not even hint that she expected even a used bike as a gift - only to find where she could buy a used bike she could afford. She never expected the response. But five people called before noon, Sunday morning to pledge offers to buy a new bike and a sixth called wanting to chip in. All they asked was to remain anonymous. The offer, from Campbell County, TN, fulfilled his pledge. The second offerer, from Columbia, bought the helmet - though he, too, would have gotten the bike for the child's birthday.

By Jean George

I wanted to write and thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for all the help getting our little boy his bike.

He was so happy when he saw it and rode it the whole time we were at the fairgrounds.

He said this was his best birthday ever. I wish you all could've seen the look on his little face.

Model plane is Curtiss Eagle biplane, not Spirit of St. Louis

Gary Rose writes:
It is nice to see and own toys from the past.

The model was assembled resembling a Curtiss Eagle trimotor biplane or a Boeing 80, not the Spirit of St Louis. The Spirit of St Louis was custom-built by Ryan Airlines in San Diego, California as a single engine, single-seat monoplane, like the top picture on the box.

The Curtiss Eagle was first built in 1919 (before Charles Lindbergh made his famous flight) as an airliner. The Boeing 80 was introduced in 1928 a year after the famous flight being designed for mail and passenger service for Boeing Air Transport --Gary Rose

Walking Adair County (Columbia) KY: A personal metric

Walking: It doesn't necessarily take a lot of money to the health benefits you want. In fact, not spending is a parallel goal in my experiment. Might even look for a paying job where 10,000 strides, spread over an eight hour shift, is part of the work. Don't guess many waitresses or waiters, walking mailmen, neighborhood police on foot patrol, or Amazon pickers have a single concern about getting their 10,000 strides in. They're getting paid to get healthy.

Ed Waggener

There have been no posts during the period 5:30amCT-6:17amCT this Labor Day. The time was used to test a way to get in the 10,000 steps I've taking each day as a health regimen.

I reached 5,100 of the strides, all indoors, in three rooms, but mostly around a small kitchen island. It took me 47 minutes to get half of the goal completed, or to be precise, 5,100 strides
