Ralph Waggener: Story a great service to Adair County

Comments about Question that remains unanswered - and we've tried

Ralph Waggener
Personal Commentary

You are doing a great service to all of Adair County by the excellent story you wrote. Personal matters coming from Board members should not affect their decision making. When you hire a lawyer for $330.00 per hour, it sounds like you have done something wrong or you are going to do something illegal!

The Adair County Water District has too much money involved for all not to know what the heck is going on. Thank you. Ralph Waggener

Jon Halsey: Glad to have question asked on CAUD spending

Jon Halsey writes:
Having raised this question early on I am glad to see that you are staying on top of it.

Until all of our public officials, elected or not, become open and honest regarding their use and misuse of OUR money and start to apply some intelligence and thinking to their actions they will not be considered to be operating with any amount of integrity.

Question that remains unanswered - and we've tried

What's going on at the Columbia/Adair County Utilities District? How much does the Columbia/Adair County Utilitities District owe for the special counsel hired to defend against a lawsuit for which there is no written or verbal indication any litigation might happen?

By Ed Waggener
Commentary

For many days now, we have asked a question which is on the minds of some (not enough): How much is currently owed to the special attorney, Damon Talley, hired Thursday, May 14, 2015 by the Columbia/Adair County Utilities District at $332 per hour? Almost three months ago?

I have also asked Board Chairman Tim Baker, Member Barry Stotts, Member David Jones, and Member Mike Newton. Chairman Baker has not answered. Members Stotts, David Jones, and Mike Newton all say they are asking and do not have an answer. Maybe Member Larry Russell Bryant, whom we have not asked, can give an answer.

Our wonderful teachers from China share same last name . . .

Yesterday, for the first time, CM readers were introduced to our two wonderful Chinese language teachers at Adair County High School. In the CM caption with this photo: Two new shining stars - Chinese language teacher, they were early-on - since corrected - listed as "sisters." Supt. Alan Reed sends the following note to clarify. The original cutline has now been updated. - CM

By Alan W. Reed, Superintendent

The are a handful of last names in China. These two ladies share a common last name, Zhang, but are un-related. They come from cities that are widely separated. They are not sisters.

They are delightful and are certified, degreed teachers from the country that is our number one trading partner.

Thanks for letting me clear this up. - Alan Reed, Superintendent
