Likes countdown; has custom one for excited pre-Headstarter

Jamie Isabelle writes:
I like the countdown to the new school year; each day I tell the boys how many days are left till it starts back. I believe this way they know and when it comes down to it and the parent says you got to get to bed, you have school tomorrow it's not going to be a shock. Also, I am added the days to my other son's for his first year of Head start and he's really excited. --Jamie Isabelle

Lisa Godsey: Wants days of summer to last forever . . .

Earlier letter in this thread: Four more join of chorus to stop back to school countdown

Lisa Godsey writes:
I absolutely love my job - a fact I am always willing to tell my students, parents, coworkers, and bosses.

However, I really love summer, too. Especially the precious few days I have left this summer to enjoy the company of that wonderful, amazing man that has defied all odds! I want these days to last forever . . . not be ticked down like the fleeting sands of an hourglass.

I'd be very grateful if you'd remove that dreaded countdown clock!

KY Afield Outdoors: Don't overlook proper eye protection

By Kevin Kelly

Frankfort, KY - Every angler has at one time or another forgotten something in their rush to leave for a fishing trip.

It's disheartening when that something is sunglasses. Squinting and shielding your eyes for hours takes some of the fun out of the experience.

"More than just the damage or discomfort from the bright light, you start getting eye strain because you're squinting to make your pupil even smaller because your pupil doesn't get small enough naturally," said Dr. Seema Capoor, an associate professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Kentucky. "The squinting causes brow ache and tension headaches. It's much more comfortable and safer with sunglasses."

Chorus of outrage over school start countdown swells

Kathryn Krug writes
I, too, find your countdown cruel and despondent-making. I get a sinking feeling each time I see that number, and I am not a student or a teacher or even a parent of school-age children.

I suggest those who want to, post the countdown on their refrigerator. Finally, I will quote my grandson, now between third and fourth grade. The class had to finish the sentence: I am looking forward to next year because . . . [and he wrote:] I WANT TO GET SCHOOL OVER WITH. - Kathryn Krug

Comment on Countdown: 48 days of Summer Vacation left

A rational rant against the Back to School Countdown Reminder on CM. It's backward, this 60 year old little boy who is enjoying the 'sweaty bliss' in the zippety-do-dah days of Summer Vacation in Gradyville, KY. Instead of a foreboding countdown, he says, magazine should a 'count UP the glorious days of summer as they transpire with all of their great memories.' To which we have no rebuttal. - EW

Over the course of the last several weeks I've taken notice of the relentless back-to-school countdown your cherished community publication has disseminated with exacting accuracy.

Not one "usually" to criticize, point a finger, nor complain (don't ask my betrothed); my constitution does cause me to ponder the intent. And not on just a singular dimension.
