Prayers are with the family of Herman Rattliff

John Chowning writes:
We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the family of Herman Rattliff. Herman served for almost two decades in the Kentucky House of Representatives and was a strong advocate for those issues of importance to our part of Kentucky. He was a strong Republican leader in the region and at the state level in an era when Republicans were very much in the minority in the Commonwealth of Kentucky - and was highly regarded by people on both sides of the aisle. Our prayers are with his family this day. --John Chowning

A Big Thank You from Hardscratch Country Store

On June 1, 2014, the "Flame of Hardscratch" will pass from Ken, Vicki, and Jake Hill to new owners of the Hardscratch Country Store, Tim & Sherry Kelly

By Ken, Vicki, and Jake Hill

In July 2005 the doors were closed on the Hardscratch Country Store, the windows were dark, and the "regulars" were reduced to sitting on the front porch, wondering if there was any chance of reviving the old place. A month and a half later, it was cleaned, restocked, and upgraded, and the doors again welcomed all comers. With little more than the desire to keep the community of Hardscratch (a.k.a. Glens Fork) alive, Vickie and I took on this new challenge.

FM2 will offer fun to raise funds for Kosair Charities

By Barbara Armitage, Market Coordinator
Farmers Market on the Square

Stop in, at the Farmer's Market on the Square, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY in Columbia and help me raise money for Kosair Charities. Saturday May 31, 2014 promises to be a beautiful warm sunny day to be at the Farmer's Market on the Square. So why will I be all cold and wet? At 10:00amCT Saturday you all will have an opportunity to throw a bucket of water on me - for a price! For only a $1.00 donation you can get in on the dry side of all the fun.

I was challenged this week by Caitlin Helm of Lonely Acres Farm to what is known as a "cold water challenge" to raise money for charity.
The "cold water challenge" started out years ago as a fund raiser where people were challenged to actually jump into a lake of cold water. Thankfully now the challenge is easier - you just have to get wet.

See you at the Farmer's Market on the Square, at the Adair Annex Parking Lot, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY. We're open every Saturday from 8am to 1pm CT.

I know that lots of you have secretly wanted to do this to someone so why not me? It's for a good cause. - Barbara Armitage

Thoughts: - Bounce back from adversity

The writer is a testimony to overcoming adversity and encourages others not to let setbacks spoil their dreams. I am a testimony to resilience. If I can accomplish what I have in my career, having been brought to my knees again and again with disappointments, hurt feelings, health problems (being told I had little chance of recovering from cancer) along with other problems...Then YOU too, regardless of your current station in life or circumstances can rise again. All you have to do is reach inside and find the courage, strength, stamina, attitudes, self-belief, self confidence, faith in GOD, and rekindle your desire for what you believe you can do and will do. - SUE C. STIVERS
Next earlier Chamber Insight story: Chamber Building meeting room has new look

By Sue C. Stivers
From May 2014, Chamber Insights

One of the critical skills for ongoing success is the ability to bounce back from adversity. Sooner or later in life everyone experiences failure, disappointment, setbacks or the lack of desire to keep on going on.

Yes, I have had failures as well as successes over the years. Just because you have failed, doesn't mean you are a failure. Just because you have achieved success doesn't make you a success. Many people have hit bottom, only to climb out and achieve greatness and many people have done great things only to end up broke, alone and without any lasting feeling of accomplishments.
