Commentary: The Special Bond one has with a pet

Remembrances of two special dogs . . . they never were mad at me, never hurt me, never asked anything of me, but to love them and pay some attention to them - TODD WILSON

I agree so much with Jon Halsey.

If you have never had the special bond one has between a pet. You cannot understand the loss you feel.

Poetry by Robert Stone: Inescapable, a sonnet

Inescapable
-a sonnet for Scott E. Johnson
Familiar fields provide an easy choice,
relief from paths with outcomes unforeseen,
but sudden weakness asks with pleading voice
what imperfections naked now may mean.

Much work and sweat will make the body fine,
attractive playground pleasing self, so strong,
but creeping numbness whispers sharp decline
where nightmare weeds will grow a field of wrong.

Disuse soon makes a skeleton in bed,
despairing of a helpless rest of life,
but steady treatment hints discharge from dread
with future cut aright by hope's bright knife.

More serious the question, at what cost;
more inescapable the answer, lost.

- Robert Stone, 18 November 2012

Carol Perkins: Thanksgiving in Texas

Thanksgiving is a time to be with family - especially grandchildren. Edmonton, all of Metcalfe County and her store are in good hands. She'll even forgo Black Friday to be with her Texas granchildren.
The next earlier Carol Perkins column: Carol Perkins: Who's Counting?

By Carol Perkins

August. That was the last time I saw my Texas grandchildren. For most of you, that would be an eternity because you see yours weekly if not daily. You are accustomed to them dropping by, raiding the refrigerator, and even spending the night. As a matter of fact, you may see your grandchildren more than you see their parents.

Today, Sunday, November 18, 2012, is a big day in arts in the area. The Glasgow Musicale presents "Written in the Stars," and Campbellsville University presents a two act opera, W.A. Chuck Hinman: IJMA: 030 1 August 2008: Tuesday - Ironing Day Each day of the week had its special actrivity in the regimented lifestyle of a Nebraska farm a hundred years ago.

Tuesday -- Ironing Day

One of the things that has sadly disappeared in my lifetime is a regimented lifestyle particularly of women of my mom's generation.

When I was growing up on a Nebraska farm in the 1920s-1930s there was a well known song that indicted a way of daily life for our mommas and grandmommas and therefore affected everyone in their families.

Ghost Writers in the Sky

I have been a fan of the mystery novels supposedly by Robert K. Tanenbaum for the past several years. I like his two main characters Butch Karp and his wife Marlene Ciampi for their unconventional approach to life in general and crime in particular.
