Why not just leave name of elementary school the same as it is? M.B. Claywell writes: Just wondering...if the school district is building a new school to replace the old building then why are we trying to come up with a new name? We are not adding another school..we are only replacing the old building. Why not call it by the name it already has? Just saying. - M.B. ClaywellThanks, M.B. Claywell. A lot of people agree with you. Others seem to want a new name. Epicurean Kentuckian: The Feedman reviews Laha's Red Castle Laha's Red Castle: 21 Lincoln Square, Hodgenville, KY. 270-358-9201. IF YOU GO: It's a little over 47 miles, about 1 hour north of Downtown Columbia, KY. (Bing Map/Directions from Anywhere) Click on Headline for story with photo by Kenny Browning By Kenny Browning, the Feedman Guest Epicurean Kentuckian Restaurant Reviewer At one time all small towns had a Mom and Pop burger joint like Laha's that offered fast food fresh off of a hot plate. Most had limited sitting and a limited menu to go with the small building that was never big enough. Laha's fits this description with eight stools at the counter and a menu consisting of hamburgers, onion rings, french fries and chili soup. I stop in from time to time and it is always packed for the lunch time rush. It always amazes me how many carryout orders go out the door. I suppose that is a good thing with it being able to seat only eight people at the counter. Took this photo on a Sunday when they were closed. . . when open so many cars and people around that the building is rather obscured. I was seated by an older guy one day and in the course of the conversation he told that he had been coming to Laha's since the age of fourteen and the food was great every time ! Had to ask if he could remember the first time and occasion for eating here and what year. After thinking for a minute and doing some math in his head : "Was 1936. We had sold our tobacco crop that day and Daddy splurged by stopping to get a store bought meal on the way home." Laha's opened in 1934. Did not take long to become a LaRue County institution! -Kenny Browning, the Feedman 2012-09-15 13:14:11 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Food
