Comment: WRH paycuts should start at top, not with little people Comments re article 53809 Mary Bardin What a way to show appreciation Crystal Kimbler writes: It is my opinion that Pay cuts/layoffs should start at the top of the scale not with the little people who are currently struggling as it is and not with the ones who have dedicated 10-30 years as underpaid workers. The pockets need to be hit where the pockets can afford to be hit. --Crystal KimblerThanks, Crystal: Well said. Westlake has been notorious for low paid to the people who could make them look so good - the very lowest tier of workers. At the same time, some of been paid multiples of what a medical school dean would make - or so it's heard. The unfortunate thing is that detailed payments from this public institution have not been easy to obtain. - EW 2012-08-17 08:52:13 | Comments | Printable version

Ann appointed two great board members To ColumbiaMagazine.com: I think Ann selected two great board members. I sat on a couple of boards with Craig Pyles and he's great in the financial area. - Barbara ShepherdThanks, Barbara Shepherd: There was a livelier discussion last night with new members Richard Grant and Craig Pyles aboard. Even the incumbents spoke with passion - and maintained civil discourse with those opposed to their views. Perhaps a lesson has been learned on autocratic tactics. Maybe there's a modicum of hope that what should be the county's number one business - healthcare should be greater even than agriculture if handled right - will be saved. -EW 2012-08-17 07:35:04 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback
Mary Bardin: What a way to show appreciation! Mary Bardin writes: WOW! We have such a dedicated staff, what a great way to show our appreciation for everything they do. First of all, most of them have worked many many years without a pay raise, now we cut their salary, take away their benefits (what little they had) and then make them thankful they have a job. I suppose I did not realize their salaries could save our local hospital. We desperately need a hospital, but to run a hospital we need dedicated, caring employees. Where do these thoughts come from to take everything from the employees. I heard the Spectrum people promise raises would be given, when they were being bought, and looked at some employee faces. They were amazed they would finally get a raise. I would hate to see their faces when they find they are going to sustain such a drastic reduction in funds to feed their families. I have tried to keep my mouth shut in the hospital matter, but had to voice my opinion on this. Think about it, people. How are you going to enjoy being cared for by people that have really been stepped on and pushed into the ground? - Mary BardinComments re article 53799 Hospital looking at drastic cost cutting measures 2012-08-17 07:22:51 | Comments | Printable version

Pray for Westlake: Ask God for a miracle Says 'It is sickening to me to think that after everything we have put into this hospital, someone would even suggest taking the brunt of this out on all the employees, rather than looking at who is getting paid to do a whole lot of nothing." - NICOLE BELL By Nicole Bell Writer's personal commentary Please, everyone pray for our hospital. Major changes are being proposed, ones that will greatly impact the employees, their families, and our ability to provide quality care to our patients. Please pray that a miracle happens, that funds are provided that can keep our hospital going. Otherwise, the hospital will either close, or will stay open at the expense of the employees that have poured their hearts and souls into keeping it open.
