Best Seat in Town: Rocker in front of C & F?

2011-11-10 - 322 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
Blake Martin graciously agreed to pose in what looks to be the best seat seat in town, the comfortable rocker in front of C & F Discount, 322 Public Square, Columbia, KY. Downtown has been getting more and more places to sit and relax, read, or just watch the passing scene. The real test will come when we see if Tommy Hardison, who tends to prefer the benches at the courthouse, the seat of his Kawsaki, or the Town Barber Shop gravitates to the rocker. It might be nice for more of them to be available, especially some with protective awnings, as this one has.

The low income internet program is national

Jon writes:
The low income program is a national program not just for New York. All major cable companies have agreed to participate.

It's a partnership Here is part of the original release from Connect2Compete: "Connect to Compete is a national private and nonprofit sector partnership created to increase broadband adoption and digital literacy training in disadvantaged communities throughout the United States. The initiative is designed to help residents improve outcomes in education, health, and employment through broadband opportunities and technology solutions.Connect to Compete partners include some of most influential corporations, nonprofits, think-tanks, philanthropic foundations along with key federal, state, and local government entities."

So it seems that State and local government as well as local cable outlets will have to get together for it to be available in Adair county.

Adair Countians and the War for Texas Independence 1836

A story for Veterans Day 2011: Kentucky has always deserved the reputation of Volunteer state. Sometimes volunteering to go into harm's way but never being given the opportuntity to do so, because of curious twists of history. Such was the case for 48 Adair Countians who signed up to liberate Texas: Zachariah Holladay, John Holladay, John Hamilton, Charles T--?--, John Hood, Joseph Grider, Samuel Hancock, James Ingram, Joseph W. Barbee, Levi Turner, William Willis, Little Berry Janes, Green B. Waggoner, John C. Waggoner, John Crotian, L.B. Hill, Austin Hancock, Alford G. Bagwell, Burkett Watson, Randolph Gifford, Jefferson Chambers, Samuel Stewart, Benoni Rogers, Obediah P. Reams, James Gifford, John S. Neat, Francis Ross, Milton Pile, Robert O. Field, Oliver Walkup, John Lain, William C. Ragle, Hiram Turner, Thomas M. Waggoner, Benjamin Monroe, Jr., Edward Mills, Samuel Reede, William C. Skaggs, Nathan Montgomery, Philip P. Frogge, Joseph O. Nelson, William F. Grady, Thomas B. Johnston, Jr., Green Goode, James Hutchison and John Hays

By Mike Watson

In honor of Veterans Day 2011, I have resurrected an obscure piece of Adair County Military History as a mere sampling of the eagerness of our native sons to go to the aid of those in need, thus placing themselves harm's way.

Science/Tech: Brits beat AC brains to moon mystery solution

Adair Boffins v. British ones: Momentary setback for Adair County

You win some and you lose some. The age old boffin baffler: Why some moon rocks are magnitized, has been solved.. The race for the solution seems to go to the British scientists rather than Great Thinkers of Adair County. (Not even Billy Joe Fudge or Hardscratch Deli Science Roundtable got this one first.) Here's a link to the answer: Mystery of MAGNETIC ROCKS FOUND ON MOON cracked by Lewis Page in the A register.

CM NOTE: They've (apparently) won this one fair and square: But in race for world supremacy we've still got the Lindsey Wilson volleyball, ADAIR Band, and the Conception of Mark Twain going for us. One day the Canadian Tour Buses will come. You'll see. -CM
