Adair County Veterans Biography: Stephen R. Slaubaugh

Stephen R. Slaubaugh sends in the first of what we hope to be many Adair County Veteran Biographies.

Slaubaugh, Stephen R.
Enlisted in the Air Force in 1968 and retired in 1992. Logged over 3000 flight hours in assorted aircraft including helicopters. Over 1000 hours were logged while performing mid-air retrievals of spy satellites (a recently declassified CIANSA mission). Participated in the development and testing of many weapon systems such as Laser Guided Bombs, Cruise Missiles, and A-10, F-15, and F-16 aircraft. Met many dignitaries including President Reagan; Prince Charles; Princess Diana; and the 1984 Premier Of The Peoples Republic Of China, Zhao Ziyang. Participated in NATO, DEA, and FBI missions. Shot and edited video used to brief Congress on the Cruise Missile Program.

Im most proud of a letter I received from a mother thanking me for my part in helping save her sons after their canoe tipped over in freezing water.
