Smoking negatively impacts other family members

Response to Comment on Great American Smokeout
Mary Keltner writes:
Re: Dave Everett's comment to keep smoking in order to pay for children's health care and education - those same taxes will also go to pay for the many smoking related illnesses that develop in adults, paid through Medicare and Medicaid, and the illnesses caused by exposure to secondhand smoke.

But the toll is not only financial, it will impact everyone in a family, in a negative way. I say this after working as a nurse for a good number of years, and nursing both of my parents, who died from smoking related illnesses. Think about all of those lost at too young an age, and many times in great pain, and how not smoking would have improved the lives of them and their families... -Mary Keltner

Letter: Veteran writes for contact information

James Treacy writes:
Hi,

My name is Jim Treacy. I served in Vietnam with A Company, 1/6th Infantry, 23rd Infantry (Americal) Division in 1970-71.

One of my best friends in Vietnam was Carol Wayne Bennett who was originally from Edmonton, KY. In Vietnam he went by his second name, Wayne. We lost track of each other after Vietnam. Back then I lived in Quincy, Massachusetts but I now live in New Hampshire.

I did an Internet search on him and see that he is listed in ColumbiaMagazine.com as an Adair County Veteran.
We're posting some of James' letter in hopes that someone from Wayne's family will see it. If you can send us contact information, we'll pass it on to Jim.
