Obituary: Billy Ray Page, 78, Columbia, KY

He was a highly regarded member of a prominent Adair Co., KY family, He was known over a wide area for his skills as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the Columbia Christian Church, a US Army veteran of the Korean War, and a member of VFW Post 6097. He will be accorded full military honors

Billy Ray Page, 78, Columbia, KY died Wednesday morning, August 11, 2010, at his home after an illness.

The funeral service will be Saturday, August 14, 2010, at 2pmCT, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Terry White and Bro. Raymond Martin officiating. Burial will be in Haven Hill Cemetery, 1276 Liberty RD, Columbia, KY, with full military honors presented by VFW Post 6097. Visitation will be after 3pmCT, Friday, August 13, 2010.

The Fountain is scheduled to have water Friday



2010-08-11 . 201 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KYRandy Nottingham a representative of Stonewear, Carson City, NV, is installing the new fountain at the Adair Judicial Center, working under a cool shelter complete with it's own portable radio sound system, electricity, and a suitcase fan to provide a breeze. The fountain is on schedule for the water to be turned on sometime day after tomorrow, on Friday, August 13, 2010. Jason Smith, head of maintenance at the facility, said that the new 40-ft. flagstaff now flying the American flag, was installed earlier this morning. Tim Smith, the designer of the fountain centerpiece, is scheduling the installation of that artistic element now with the Mr. Smith.

Bulletin: Sculpture at water fountain after 12 noon tomorrow

Tim Smith, the sculptor for the the Scales of Justice which will be the centerpiece of the fountain at the entrance of the Adair County Judicial Center, 201 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY, said that plans are to put the sculpture in place sometime after 12pm noon CT, tomorrow, Thursday, August 12, 2010.

Sad word reaches here of tragic death
of Adair Countian in Berea, KY


Services for Hillary Hadley, the daughter of Maxie and Cathy Hadley of Columbia, KY, will be at the Columbia-Union Presbyterian Church. More details will be posted when received.

Adair Countians are deeply saddened by word of the death of a 21 year old Adair County woman.

Hillary Hadley was a graduate of Adair County High School and was a former field commander for the Adair County High School Marching band.

Captain Ken Clark of the Berea, KY, Police Department said his department notified at 11:13amET, this morning, Wednesday, August 11, 2010.

He said that Hillary was driving a pickup for a Sherman-Williams paint store, where she was working part-time this summer. "She made a delivery to a business and on the way out of an industrial site she had to cross a railroad track."

Captain Clark said that the level crossing has flashing lights and warning signs, but does not have gates which stop passage when a train is coming.

He said the driver attempted to pass over the crossing as the train neared.

Captain Clark said the pickup truck was hit in the driver's side and that he vehicle traveled some 30 feet before coming to a rest. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation into the exact circumstances surrounding the tragedy is continuing, he said.

Obituary: Beatrice E. Johnson, 80, Center, KY

She was a homemaker and was a member of the Shady Grove Baptist Church

Beatrice Euberta Johnson, age 80 of the Center community, died Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at her home.

Funeral services will be held 11amCT, Saturday, August 14, 2010 at Shady Grove Baptist Church, 1829 Center-Peggyville RD, Center, KY, with burial in the Houk Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4pm-8pmCT, Friday, August 13, 2010, at Butler Funeral Home, 201 East ST, Edmonton, KY, and after 9amCT, Saturday, August 14, 2010, at the church.

Columbia, KY - Lindsey Wilson College received national recognition on Wednesday as the Blue Raider football program was mentioned in USA Today

Lindsey Wilson is one of at least 26 schools in the NAIA and NCAA beginning football over a four year span (2009-2013). Blue Raider football returns at 1:30pmCT on September 4, 2010, against another first-year program, Notre Dame (Ohio) College. The program has been dormant for 75 years.

In last night's fiscal court meeting, Tuesday, August 10, 2010, a decision was made to accept the the low bid of $35,850.78 for a video surveillance system at the Adair County Regional Jail.

The contract was awarded to AAA Systems, a Bowling Green firm which has similar installations in Hart, Grayson, Warren and Butler Counties.

Campbellsville, KY driver injured in KY 49 collision

Columbia, KY (2010-08-10) - Trooper Fred Cornett is investigating a collision that occurred Tuesday evening at 5:10pmET, Tuesday, August 10, 2010, two miles North of Lebanon, KY at the junction of KY 49 and Toad Mattingly RD.

Joseph B. Blandford, age 17 of Campbellsville, KY, was traveling South on KY 49 in a 1993 Nissan truck when he struck the back of a 2009 KIA being operated by Amanda L. Chumley, age 21 of Stamping Grounds, KY. Chumley was attempting to turn onto Toad Mattingly Road when her vehicle was knocked into a 2004 KIA being operated by Stacey R. Stout, age 38 of Lebanon, KY. Stout was stopped at the end of Toad Mattingly Road waiting to turn.
