Poetry by Lee Barko: Colonial Cemetery

Colonial Cemetery, Cambridge, Mass
by Lee Barko
The stones which mark their beds
Are worn smooth by time.
Who lies at our feet, we do not know,
But when they lay down, their names were on display,
Adorned, perhaps, with a pious rhyme.
No longer is this so;
All that was said of them has faded away;
Yet, they are beneath us, sleeping on;
Unknown, forgotten but not gone.

Poetry hits epidemic stage in Adair Co., KY

No known cure. Even the philosopher/farmer of Fairplay now speaks in verse.
About: Asks for Robert Stone poems in other forms

Limerick: Peace to the world
by Charles Marshburn, poet
There once was a poet name Stone,

His style he was striving to hone,
Through sonnets, haiku, villanelles and limericks,

He expressed his inner thoughts,
And brought peace to the world next to none!

Hardly anyone is waxing prosaic these days.

Fund for Alzheimers honors memory of Blanche Nelson

About: Obituary: Blanche Crawhorn Nelson, 78, Cary, IL/native of Adair Co., KY

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

My mother's greatest gift was her concern and love for others - before herself. With that example, we have started a donation fund in her honor for our father, Eugene Nelson, who is afflicted with Alzheimers. Please go to alz.org, click the donate button, then double click Tributes in the left column and type in a search for "Blanche Nelson," where it will bring you to Blanche Nelson's tribute to Eugene. The last step is to sign the guest book and give what we can.

Get your Events posted more quickly

Events are posted most quickly on ColumbiaMagazine.com when they include the answers to the 5Ws and an H, with the venue address including Street Number and Address, than do those which do not include the information.

While submissions which follow CM format are posted much more quickly, we do try to find missing information, as time allows to post all submissions. As a courtesy to our readers, we don't post any Events which do not include streets and street numbers.

The Free Publicity Package included with an Events announcement on ColumbiaMagazine.com, if purchased as advertising, would cost a minimum of $37, to as much as $100 or more for multi-day events. But it's free, when received as requested, in one email for qualifying non commercial organizations. -EW.

Wants emails to Dish Network to include WBKO

Bowling Green tv station comes to Metcalfe Co, but not Adair and Russell County via Dish Network.

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Dish Network has now added WBKO to its line up, however it is not available in Adair or Russell counties. It comes as close as Metcalfe Co.

We miss not being able to get WBKO's weather, especially when the forecast is severe.

It is possible, if enough of us let Dish Network know we would like it too, they may make it available to us as well. I am asking anyone who has Dish Network to take a moment to email them requesting WBKO be added to the line up for Adair and Russell counties in addition to the networks we already have. If you don't have a Dish system email them and let them know you might consider one if WBKO was available.

The email address is care@customermail.dishnetwork.com

It only takes a minute to send an email. Customers may want to insert their Dish Network account numbers in the email to authenticate their customer status. It's worth a try.

Thanks,
s/Mark Hale

CU going green with new storm drain system

Campbellsville University is storing rainwater for use in landscaping and irrigation. System will also improve purity of Buckhorn Creek

By Christina Miller
News from Campbellsville University

Campbellsville, KY - Campbellsville University is becoming more environmentally friendly with the installation of a new storm drain system, which will store rain water for use in irrigation and landscaping.

"Rain water usually soaks into the ground, but adding more surfaces such as parking lots and roofs forces water to flow into creeks," Marion Hall, director of special projects at Campbellsville University, said. "It's not the water that bothers; it's the mud and contaminants that it takes with it."

Poetry: Asks for Robert Stone poems in other forms

About: Poetry by Robert Stone Some fear a sonnet

To poet Robert Stone, via CM:

I wish, Mr. Stone, that you would not constrain you poetic talents to the sonnet form. You thereby confine your thoughts in a strait jacket. Give yourself a little more freedom and let us admire your insights rather than your skill. Thus advises the obscure and totally unknown poet, lee barko.

s/lee barko

Editor's note: Thanks for your interest in this remarkable poet. While the sonnet form is most often seen as Mr. Stone's contribution to ColumbiaMagazine.com, by no means is this form the sole component of his catalogue. His contributions to CM poetry include, in addition to many sonnets, haiku several times a year, villanelles, and limericks. Perhaps one of his most incredible talents is the ability to compose wonderful verse within a matter of minutes of stories about Columbia and Adair County appearing online on CM, which add new dimensions and perceptions to events of the day. -EW
