Remembering Pina Lee Pyles: We have lost a treasure About: Remembering Pina Lee Pyles (Jan. 8, 1919 - Aug 21, 2009) To the Pyles & Rich Family: When we lost Aunt Pina, we lost a treasure. She was a true lady and that is hard to find these days. Aunt Pina always had pride and was always patient with us kids. She and Uncle Rollin did me a great kindness in 1975 and I have never forgotten it. Adair County is a poorer by her passing. For those of us who really knew her, she will always be "The Chief"!s/David Pyles 2009-08-25 17:46:17 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback

Community service could be required for littering About: Letter Concerned about upsurge in littering To ColumbiaMagazine.com: I completely agree. Unfortunately there will always be people who do not care and will litter. I think we need a higher fine for littering and have these signs posted, and enforce it. Maybe then people will think twice before tossing their trash out the window. If someone cannot afford the fine then allow them to pay it by doing so many hours of trash clean up around the county. s/Jennifer Redford 2009-08-25 10:31:26 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback

Letter: Concerned about upsurge in littering To ColumbiaMagazine.com: Oh no, this just won't do! I understand that for every right there must be a wrong, for every yen a yang. But for every beautiful sight must we look at this kind of mess? I left Tucker's Station on a mission to photograph the roses at the Trabue House this afternoon. Driving along Bull Run Road I was appalled at the amount of roadside litter that marred the beauty of our scenic county byway. I turned on to Hwy 206 and trash seemed to be popping up like mushrooms after a spring rain.
