Hungry dogs drop in, Darnell home, Flatwoods, Adair Co., KY

2009-07-27 - Flatwoods, Adair Co., KY - Photo by Lynne Darnell.
"These two guys showed up at the end of our driveway today. Don't know if they were dropped or if they are lost. They are really skinny and were very hungry. We are of course feeding and keeping them until we can find who they belong to. They are very friendly and playful. If anyone is missing these little guys, please call (270) 634-3075. If no one claims them, we will be looking for a new home for them as soon as they put some weight on and are healthier. Thank you," -Eddie and Lynn Darnell

Band needs just $975 to reach $140,000 goal!

Thanks to two recent large donations, one from Billy and W.K. Sandusky, and the other from Stotts, Phelps, McQueary Funeral Home, the Adair County Marching Band now has $139,025 in the bank toward its goal of $140,000 to send the kids to the 2009 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

With 122 days left before departure, they now need to bank an average of only $8.00 per day to reach the goal.

To donate to the band through Paypal to the fund with a credit card or PayPal account go to AdairBand.com. With the Macy's drive virtually complete but the band substantially behind on it's regular season fund drive, unrestricted donations to the band, with expenditures left to the band's discretion, are preferred.

Consumers should be cautious during U.S. 127 Corridor Sale

From Kentucky Health and Family Services Cabinet

The U.S. 127 Corridor Sale is a popular destination for shoppers and tourists eager to peruse the 200-mile stretch of roadway forming the backdrop for the event in Kentucky. This year, the Kentucky Department for Public Health (DPH) wants shoppers to be aware of an important consumer safety issue.

As of 2008, it became unlawful to sell recalled consumer products or products that violate safety standards after the passage of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act. DPH cautions consumers to be mindful of this and educate themselves about potentially dangerous products by visiting the Consumer Product Safety Commission's Web site, www.cpsc.gov, before hitting the sales August 6-9, 2009.

How about Magisterial District contest for Address Markers?

About: Address Markers: Chamber Members urged to set example>

To ColulmbiaMagazine.com:

What is the 10 dollar fee for the markers used for?

I have one and live off of Hwy 92 on Combest Drive.

Can we get the Magistrates involved (Sammy Baker for my area) to see who can get there district covered first?

Good friendly competition.

s/Maury Lewis

Congratulations for setting an example and having an Address Marker. Thanks, too, for asking about the money. The $10 fee goes mostly to pay for materials, which the Chamber of Commerce furnishes to the Sheriff's Department. The Chamber gets to keep about $1 on each sign. Your idea for the contest is a great one. Judge Melton and the Adair County Fiscal Court have shown great leadership on the effort. A contest sounds like a great idea. We're wondering which road in Adair County will be the first to be 100% Blue, too. -EW

Finds Jennifer Crawhorn Happiness on Shoestring inspiring

About: Jennifer Crawhorn: Happiness on a shoestring

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

What a truly inspirational message this is to us all. My husband has said for many years ... things don't matter. But I always wanted to have nice things like others did. Then one day, the bottom fell out and we couldn't even pay the utility bills. It was then that I realised that God was showing me what my husband had been saying all those years. It isn't what we have or don't have, or the name of the clothes we wear, it is the fact that we are blessed with health, family and good friends.Thank you Jennifer for sharing this story and reminding me again just how fortunate we are.
