The Ice House Goeth, today

2007-10-22 - North High Street, Columbia, KY - Photo By Ed Waggener.
The OLD WILKERSON ICE HOUSE will be demolished today. Jeff Pyles, framed with the target building in the background, unloaded Pyles Excavation Company's giant Volvo trackhoe Monday afternoon. The Volvo will be the primary piece of equipment used to remove the building which will be replaced by a new, slightly smaller brick faced one. Across the trailer bed, in the middle of High Street, Paul Curry Pyles, Jeff Pyles' wife, was there to make some last photos of the building. "I hate to see it go," Paula Pyles said. "We're tearing down everything in the name of progress. It's really sad." Thousands of coolers were filled at the Old Ice House, and many remember coming with their fathers to get hard ice for their ice cream makers. James Wilkerson and his business were a big part of Columbia for decades. Today, October 23, 2007, Photo

Gas Price Drumbeat: Doss getting lot of calls

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

I just checked kygasprices.com; they still have gas at $2.47; $2.59 in nearby town. We are still at $2.85. I also noticed that one of the chain stores that is here is always in the highest prices of the state. I keep getting a lot of calls of encouragement and many suggestions as to what we could do about the price gouging.
