Motorcycle ride to benefit Michael Farmer family

There will be a motorcycle ride and fund raising for the medical and funeral expenses of Michael Farmer, son of Melissa and Tracy McCarol and Greg Farmer, Saturday, September, 22. 2007.

Signups at Rex's Cycle Shop from 11:00am to 12:30pm. Motorcycles will leave Rex's cycle shop about 12:30pm o'clock and end at the Charity Baptist Church about 2:00 o'clock. Lunch will be served with a free will contribution and a auction will follow with many articles to be offered.

Mayor Bell gives civics lesson at CWC



2007-09-20 - Col.Wm Casey School, Columbia, KY - Photo By Patty Jones, Principal, CWC. Columbia Mayor Pat Bell was the invited guest of Mrs. Angie Hixson and Mrs. Pam Phipps 2nd grade classes at Col. Wm. Casey. The students had been studying local, state, and national government in their Social Studies class. The students heard about the workings of local government in Columbia and had lots of interesting questions to ask Mayor Bell.

Columbia Police make cocaine arrest today

The Columbia Police Department arrested Elden Passmore, 45, Dunnville, KY, at 1:30pmCT, today, Thursday, September 20, 2007, on Hudson ST, in Columbia, KY.

Passmore was arrested after a traffic stop and charged with possession of a controlled substance (cocaine), tampering with physical evidence, and DUI.

He was lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail by Sgt. Jason Cross and assisted by Officers Scholl and Atwood.

Obituary: Justin Ramsey, 17

Justin Ramsey was active in Seven Springs Ministries, Jesus Jam in Breeding, KY, and was a sophomore at Campbellsville University

Justin Ramsey, 17, of 490 Rowetown Road, Columbia, KY, died Tuesday, September 18, 2007, at 8:01pm at the University of Louisville Hospital from injuries received in an automobile accident on September 9, 2007, on Wheeler Hill in Adair County.

A graveside service will be conducted Saturday, September 22, at 2:00pmCT, at Seven Springs Ministries Cemetery with Tim Petrey officiating. Burial will follow. Visitation will be after 5:00pmCT, Friday, September 21, 2007, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY.

Detective Atwood leads marijuana raid at Eli

A raid in Eli community of Russell County on Tuesday, September 18, 2007, resulted in the arrest of Danny Coffey, 58.

Detective George Atwood, along with other strike force units, DEA Units and the Russell County Sheriff's Department seized 170 marijuana plants and approximately 40 pounds of processed marijuana.

Welcome to Clayton Matthew Richards

Clayton Matthew Richards was born today, at 11:46amET/10:46CT, September 20, 2007. Clayton is the son of Steve and Cindy Richards of Vine Grove, KY.

The new arrival weighed 8 lbs. 9 oz. and was 20" tall at birth.

He joins sibling Curtis, Casey, and Audrey LeeAnn Richards.

His paternal grandparents are Columbia natives Jim and Annette Richards, Bowling Green, KY, and Bobby and Angela Waldrop of Flaherty.

Obituary: Larry Lewis McClister, 51

Mr. McClister was a member of a respected south Adair County family and had worked at NAPA, Nissley Equipment, and Oshkosh

Larry Lewis McClister, 51, 252 Pear Tree Lane, Columbia, KY, passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2007, at 5:05pm, at the Taylor County Regional Hospital in Campbellsville, Ky, after an illness.

The funeral will be Saturday, September 22, 2007, at 11:00amCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Stoney McKinney and Bro. Jason Lacy the officiating clergy.

Columbia Utilities September 19, 2007 meeting report

Columbia Utilities Commission returns backhoe bids unopened; establishes new bid announcement guidelines. Votes to advertise anew for backhoe. Sewer, water, and gas departments have good months. Chairman Flowers reports residents' appreciation for finished High Street project. Bad tasting water in August due to higher chlorine, pipe scaling; still safe to drink, GM says.

The Columbia Utililites Commission rejected all bids for a new backhoe, and has instituted new, stricter bidding procedures.

The Commision took the action at its regular Wednesday, September 19, 2007, meeting, with instructions that five bidders be sent notices of the rejection of the bids.

The matter was brought up by Commissioner June Parson, who is the Columbia City Council representative on the five-member board.

This really helps clear up a long on going story surrounding the death of the youngster who was buried at the original Gilmer cemetery.

Kids fishing derby at GRL, Sat. Sept. 23, 2007

The Green River Lake Kids Fishing Derby will be held Saturday, September 22, 2007, starting at 8:30amCT/9:30amET and concluding at 11:30amCT/12:30pmET, at the Green River Lake State Park, Lone Valley Road, Campbellsville, KY.

Road 80 East bridge closing delayed until Oct. 1, 2007

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will close KY 80 (Columbia-Russell Springs Road) at M.P. 13.5 in Adair County to through traffic beginning Monday, October 1, 2007.

Signs previously posted announced the closure for September 25, 2007.

Doyle Lloyd is building an exciting new Adair County Band website and wants help with the project.

"I am building a Old Pictures page on the band's website," he writes.

Adair County Burtons Are Descendants of Thomas Burton of Cobbs Plantation of Colonial Virginia!

Mr. Frank Weldon Burton, of Lake Zurich, Illinois, participated this year in DNA testing. According to Ms. Elizabeth Siskron, a DNA testing website administrator, the results of Mr. Burtons DNA testing confirm that he and most Burtons of Adair County, Kentucky are descendants of Thomas Burton (ca. 1632-1686) of the Cobbs Plantation in colonial Virginia.

Adair Justice Center target for bid opening October 23, 2007

It's nail-biting time as architects, Project Development Board, architects, and construction manager approach bid letting with possibility appropriated money won't be enough to cover building with present features

Bid deadlines for the new Adair County Justice Center is scheduled for October 23, 2007, at 1:00pmCT/2:00pmET, if all goes as planned at the Adair County Project Development Board (PDB) meeting on Tuesday, September 18, 2007.

The project could be advertised on October 2 and 9, 2007, , in the Adair Progress and in the Lexington Herald, with the bid opening on October 23, 2007, in a PDB meeting at 6:15pmCT on that date. A pre-bid meeting is scheduled for 1pmCT/2pmET.

ACHS JV football team vs. Green Co. at 5:00pmCT

The Indians JV football team will be playing Green County on Thursday, September 20, with starting time at 5:00pmCT, and will be played on their home field.

The varsity team will have this Friday night off, but will be back in action next week as they play Casey County on Friday, September 28, at 7:00pmCT. It will be a home game for the Indians, who have been on the road for their past two games. -CATHY MOSS.

CWC kindergarten get visit by horse - in classroom

Dr. Jacob Feese, local veterinarian at Adair County Animal Hospital, Campbellsville Road, Columbia, KY, visited Mrs. Julie Brockmans Kindergarten class at Col. Wm. Casey to discuss his job recently and had a special treat for the kids.

Dr. Feese was accompanied his daughters miniature horse, Sugarbabe.

Lexi Feese is a student in Mrs. Julies class.

Cyclist transferred to UK after crash on KY 379

A motorcycle crash occurred five miles south of Russell Springs on KY 379 which resulted in the rider being taken to Russell County Hospital in Russell Springs and later being transferred to UK Medical Center.

The accident occurred at 7:55pmCT, Tuesday, September 19, 2007.
