From 10 finalists, Columbia Utilities Commission picked as Number 1 drinking water utility in the State by KY Rural Water Association By Pamela Byrd, Kentucky Rural Water Association On August 27 29, 2007, representatives of Kentucky's public drinking water and wastewater utilities gathered for the Kentucky Rural Water Association's (KRWA) 28th Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition held in Louisville, Kentucky.Over 750 utility professionals gathered at the Galt House Hotel and Suites, to join KRWA in celebrating 28 years of "helping water and wastewater utilities help themselves" and to hear presentations from industry experts, network with peers, and tour Kentucky's largest exhibition of products and services available to public utilities. The 2007 Wooden Bucket award was presented at the meeting to Columbia Utilities Commission. 45 Adair Countians have written to help get Helmets grant Link below helps you send your own comment This morning, the number of comments in support of the Adair County "Helmets for Kids" project has grown again. A list of 45 paragraph essays, many of them quite moving essays in themselves, were on the site at 9:48am CT, when it was last checked. People from all walks of life are lending their support to this Helmets for Kids program, which is already set to hand out 173 helmets to young Adair Countians who request them. The request is for $4,000. Through a special arrangement with Rex's Cycle, the helmets are being purchased for $20. Rick Wilson, chairperson of the program, emphasizes that every dollar raised for Helmets for Kids stays in Adair County. A red letter day for Columbia. Don and Eddie Franklin, Marshall Loy, and Richard L. Walker, owners of Holladay Place, Inc., have sold 20.9 acres of land to Wal-Mart. The sale was completed today. The local bank for Holladay Place notified the owners at 3:52pm, Thursday, August 30, 2007, that Wal-Mart had wired the payment for the acreage. Richard Walker said that the deed to the property has now been transferred. But, many local leaders believe that the completion of the sale means a further frenzy in development around the the interchange. A strip center with stores not presently in Columbia is expected and a major new fast food presence is expected. Longest serving KY archivist retires today Richard Belding started with KDLA in 1979, has earned national reputation as pioneer in media conservation A national pioneer and leader of preserving electronic records, Kentucky State Archivist and Records Administrator Richard N. Belding will retire August 31 after 28 years of service with the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives (KDLA). Belding is the longest-serving Kentucky state archivist. "Kentucky owes a great debt to Richard for his outstanding contributions, as do archives and manuscript repositories around the state," Wayne Onkst, Kentucky state librarian and KDLA commissioner, said. "His dedicated service over the past three decades has increased the safety and security of government records, as well as made it easier for citizens to find government information." Bardstonian appointed to KY Emergency Medical Services Board Governor Ernie Fletcher has appointed H. Joseph Prewitt, of Bardstown, to the Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services. Prewitt joins a Board with 18 seats, all appoointed by the governor The present board also includes Mayor Brenda L. Allen, Campbellsville, KY, and currently has several open spots. Prewitt is the director of emergency medical services for Nelson County and is a licensed paramedic. He is a member of the board of the Kentucky Ambulance Providers Association and is certified in emergency medical training.
