Adair Food Pantry gets chance at matching money

Local effort eligible to participate in $1 million Feinstein challenge match

Adair County Food Pantry, located in the basement of Madison Square Office Building, is hoping local generosity will help them augment funds for food for limited resource families in their service area.

For the tenth year, Alan Shawn Feinstein of Cranston, RI, will divide $1 million among hunger fighting agencies nationwide. The amount of the matches depends on the amount money given during March and April, 2007. The amount of money may be matched proportionately for money collected between March 1 and April 30, 2007.

The Columbia-Adair County Food Pantry is open each Tuesday from 9am to noon CT. April 10, 2007, these five smiling faces greeted clients. From left, Lloyd French, director, Lucille Lemmon, Audrey Calhoun (forward), Carol Miller, and Arlinda Kessler. Mrs. Kessler provides Adair County Extension classes in nutrition and budgeting for families with children under 18. Some 225 plus clients are served by the local Food Pantry.

CPD, Adair SO, make cocaine arrest

Officers from the Columbia Police Department and the Adair County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant at 57 Hindman Street at approximately 4:40pm CT, Monday afternoon, April 9, 2007, and arrested Roderick Curry, 40, Columbia, KY.

Curry was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance 1st degree, second offense (cocaine), and was lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail. - Sgt. Jason Cross, Columbia Police Department.

The Adair Co. Road Dept Report, Tues, April 10, 2007

District 1: Gary Samuells is cold patching in District 1 on Little Cake, Barnetts Creek, Cooper Ridge Roads. Terry Williams and Donnie Melson are putting tiles in on Old Pellyton East Road, and working on the Barnetts Creek culvert walls.

District 3: Lonnie Page is grading in District 3.

District 4: Tom Brock is cutting trees on the Reams Road and Chestnut Grove Road.

She was a member of Bloomington Chapel Brethren in Christ Church and a homemaker

Tabitha Lynn Bradshaw Dial, 35, Yellow Hammer Road, Glensfork Community, passed away Monday, April 9, 2007 at 2:21am CT, at Westlake Regional Hospital Emergency Room in Columbia, KY.

The funeral service will be Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at 1:00pm at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Ronnie Janes and Bro. Ralph Foster the officiating clergy.

Jaycees meeting

Driver charged with DUI following single vehicle crash

The driver of a 1995 Lincoln was charged with DUI following a single vehicle crash at 10:05pm, Monday evening, April 9, 2007.

Joe Taylor, 77, Greensburg, KY, was southbound on KY 555, seven miles north of Springfield when he ran off the roadway and struck an earth embankment.

Taylor was admitted to Springview Hospital in Lebanon.

The accident was investigated by Trooper John Adams of Kentucky State Police Post 15, Columbia, KY.
