VFW Post 6097 plans to add Ladies Auxiliary

Commander Jimmy Luttrell urges members and non-members eligible to join the VFW to attend meeting February 22, 2007 to help organize the auxiliary

VFW Post 6097 will have its regular monthly meeting at 6:00pm CT, Thursday evening, February 22, 2007, at the VFW building at the fairgrounds. At this meeting we will have applications for starting a Ladies Auxiliary for Post 6097. Eligible applicants must be one of the following: grandmother, mother, wife, daughter, step-daughter, granddaughter or sister of veterans eligible to join the VFW. All members, and non-members eligible to join the VFW, are urged to attend. For more information, please contact Post Commander Jimmy Luttrell at 270-384-5219 or email at jlut53@yahoo.com.

Fletcher Administration officials to inspect Burnside ramp

FRANKFORT, Ky. Officials from Governor Ernie Fletchers office, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and the Commerce Cabinet will examine work to extend the boat ramp at General Burnside Island State Park.

Governor Fletcher ordered the extension after the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers lowered the level of Lake Cumberland. Without the extension the ramp would be unusable by boaters.

Horse Cave Book Fair is this weekend

The first book fair in Horse Cave is scheduled for this coming Friday and Saturday, February 23 and 24 in the old Dollar General Store building at 107-109 Water Street next to K & H Department Store and The Bookstore.

The fair features a number of area book dealers and authors.

Obituary: Stephen L. Budzisz, 61, Vietnam Veteran

He was a member of Sparksville Baptist Church. Military honors will be presented by Columbia VFW Post 6097.

Stephen L. Budzisz, 61, 238 Blue Ridge Circle, Columbia, KY, passed away Sunday, February 18, 2007, at 7:44am at Norton Suburban Hospital in Louisville, KY.

The funeral service will be Wednesday, February 21, 2007, at 1:00pm CT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with Rev. Darrell Landis the officiating clergy.

Ice patch causes fatality in Washington County

Second driver airlifted to UL

A fatal accident at 6:00am, Monday, February 19, 2007, seven miles west of Springfield, KY, in Washington County is being blamed on a patch of ice on the US 150 roadway.

Martha L. Golden, 44, Springfield, KY, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Washington County Coroner.

Or if you would like them mailed please call 270-384-4703 or e-mail acjudge1@alltel.net. Bids will be accepted until Monday, March 5th, at 1:00 p.m. CST, in Judge Meltons Office. Bids will be opened at 1:00 p.m. CST. The Adair County Fiscal Court reserves the right to accept or reject any or all bids. Closure of the Christine-Sano Road at the Grassy Springs Road intersection
Closure date: Monday, February 26, 2007, at 6:00 a.m. CST
The Adair County Fiscal Court will be closing the Christine-Sano Road at intersection of the Grassy Springs Road. No traffic will be allowed from the Grassy Springs Road onto the Christine Sano Road. Closure of this road is due to the construction of a new bridge. Road will be closed till completion of bridge.

John Paxton Shroyer, 42, formerly of Louisville, KY, passed away suddenly in San Antonio, TX, in January 2007.

The funeral service will be Thursday, February 22, 2007, at 1:00pm CT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, with Dr. David Dively officiating. Interment will be in the Columbia Cemetery in Columbia, KY.

Adair Fiscal Court March 2007 meeting date changed

Special-regular meeting March 6, 2007, instead of March 13, 2007, one week earlier than previously announced.

The Adair County Fiscal Court will have a special-regular meeting on Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. in the basement of the Adair County Annex Building. This meeting will take the place of the March 13, 2007 regular meeting which has been cancelled. The meeting date is being changed due to Judge Melton being out of town for meetings on the regular meeting date. The meeting will be open to the public. -GALE COWAN, Adair County Fiscal Court Clerk.

It's Sunday (February 18, 2007) and I had cabin fever so I called Charles Grimsley and we took a short trip to Rock House Bottom in Russell County.

In the past I have rappelled off the top but today was not a day for that.
