COLUMBIA, KY -- History professor, author and war specialist Burnam Reynolds will give a talk on warfare Thursday, February 15, 2007 at Lindsey Wilson College.

Reynolds talk, "Just What is a Just War," will be at 7pm CT on Thursday, February 15, in Lindsey Wilson's W.W. Slider Humanities Center Recital Hall.

Youth tobacco conference at The Center Feb. 28, 2007

Student leaders (grades 8--12) from 19 southern and eastern Kentucky counties will be representing their communities at the Region C Youth Tobacco Conference to be held in Somerset at the Center for Rural Development on Wednesday, February 28, 2007, between 9:00am and 1:00pm ET. The teen friendly, free event will feature information sessions, free goodies, food, and great music, concluding with a concert by the popular Christian band, Live Fish.

Tourist group going after bus tours for this area

Somerset, KY- Vicki Kidd, President/CEO of Southern and Eastern Kentucky Tourism Development Association (SEKTDA) and Jeff Crowe, National Scenic Byways Director, traveled to Grapevine, Texas on January 27, 2007, to attend the American Bus Association (ABA) 2007 American Bus Marketplace.

This is the motorcoach and group travel industry's leading business event. Seven big rural secondary projects scheduled this year

This article is now incorporated, also, in the report on the February 13, 2007, regular Adair County Fiscal Court meeting

Adair's Rural Secondary Road program will have a total budget approaching $1 million in 2007. Seven major improvements are scheduled for the coming year.

Gorman Shelley, Director of Rural Secondary Roads for Kentucky Department of Highways District 8, Somerset, KY, appeared before the court to detail the state plans for the county's rural roads. The budget for 2007 is $908,354, he said, of which $106,231 is leftover money.

Solid Waste Permits, Hauler Registration renewals due


PUBLIC NOTICE
To: Solid Waste Collectors and Recyclers:

RE: Solid Waste Permits and Hauler Registration Forms
Once again it is that time of the year to renew your Solid Waste Permits pursuant to KRS 227.43-315. Waste Collectors and recyclers are required to register and report to the county in which they provide service. The new regulation 401 KRS 49:080 defines a collector/recycler as: Any person who operates a business for the purpose of recycling recovered material as defined in KRS 224.01-010(20) collected from the municipal solid waste stream, excluding any business operated for the exclusive purpose of collecting motor vehicles or motor vehicle parts to be sold for re-use; or, a recycling program operated by a municipality for the purpose of collecting recovered material as defined by KRS 224.01-010(20).

Again, thanks for your help and cooperation. Please remember to bring copies of your insurance cards when you come to the office to obtain your permit number. Renewal is due by March 2nd, 2007. Permits are $50.

  • Ann gets unanimous approval on requirements for new roads coming into county system.

  • Court approves Judge Melton's request to go after grants to improve Mt. Carmel and Arnold's Landing boat ramps; Snake Creek Ramp to be included if lease obtained

  • Patty Nall promoted to full time in Judge's office

  • Court endorses Renaissance Columbia application for $100,000 grant
  • County Solid Waste Coordinator Sinclair gets ovation but no motion to implement his recommendation

Obituary: Elzada Burton Badger, 81 dies in Indiana

Services for Adair County native will be Thursday at Who So Ever Will Church in Edinburgh, IN
Elzada Burton Badger, 80, passed away at around 7:00pm, Monday, February 12, 2007, at the hospital in Franklin, IN.

She was born in Adair County on April 29, 1926. She was the daughter of Moss Taylor Burton (1887 - 1972) and Orlena Mae Burton (1892 - 1968). At the time of her death she was a resident of Flat Rock, IN.
