Dean Julian to retire at end of school year

Chief academic has led the largest expansion of academic programs in Lindsey Wilson history. Dr. Luckey will begin national search to find successor

COLUMBIA, KY -- After almost four decades serving in higher education, Lindsey Wilson College Provost and Dean of the Faculty William B. Julian will retire at the end of this school year.

Since being named Lindsey Wilson's chief academic officer in December 1996, Julian has led the largest expansion of the college's academic programs in Lindsey Wilson's 104-year history.

Birds of Kentucky: Tufted Titmouse



2007-01-29 - Photo by Pen. The Tufted Titmouse (Baeolophus bicolor) is similar to, and often seen feeding with, the Carolina Chickadee. Slightly larger than the chickadee, this bird is easily recognized by its quick call of "peter-peter-peter." According to Stan Tekiela's Field Guide, the tufted titmouse is "notorious for pulling hair from sleeping dogs, cats and squirrels to line" its nest.

CPD runs down fleeing suspect, charges him with robbery

Lincoln Douglas, 39, alleged to have pull knife, demanded $200

The Columbia Police Department arrested Douglas Lincoln, 39, Columbia, KY, charging him with robbery 1st degree and fleeing or evading police 1st Degree. The incident occurred Saturday morning, January 27, 2007, at 10:45am, CT.

The charges came after police received a call of a fight at the Gate Station on Burkesville. Lincoln allegedly had been arguing with the victim and pulled on knife on him, demanding $200. The name of the victim was not released as of this report.

Lincoln fled on foot and was apprehended by CPD officers minutes later. He was lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail by Officer Jr. Murphy.

Dr. L.C. Nell house/Diddle house distinctions remembered

Writer remembers her grandmother's home there. It was her own home after she married. She recalls the small ways the Nell and Diddle Houses differed, and spots clues which distinguishes the Nell home. She remembers the placement of the outbuildings at the Nell Home. She wants to contact the Scott Bros. to acquire part of it.

I have a very special interest in this house and was very sad to learn that it is being torn down, though I can understand why.

My own grandmother, Cora Rogers Wright Coomer, lived in this house from the early 1940s or earlier until the early 1980s, so it was like a second home for me all the time I was growing up and even afterwards.

Driver injured in KY 70 accident Sunday night

Jonathan D. Logsdon, 34, Edmonton, KY, was treated and released at T.J. Samson Hospital in Glasgow following an accident which occurred at 10:00pm CT, Sunday night, January 28, 2007. Logsdon was operating a 1997 GMC truck eastbound on KY 70, four miles west of Knob Lick, when he ran off the roadway. Trooper Ricky Brooks of Kentucky State Police Post 15, Columbia, KY, investigated the incident.
