A trip home includes visit to Adair County cousins ColumbiaMagazine.com reader Ron DeVore has traced his family into Adair County, back to the Gradyville Flood of 1907, and his daughter Michele brought his grandsons Spencer and Jamie for a visit recently. Ron writes to us about his family present and past: Charles Mitchell Denny of Gradyville and a blacksmith by trade married my grandmother, Eugenia " Genie " Compton of Gradyville in 1899. They resided in the greater Gradyville area where Mitchell served his blacksmith apprenticship under an A. H. Caudwell, at tome of 1907 Gradyville flood he was in business for himself. Both my grandfather and grandmother survived the flood.
