Accident investigation continues, eastbound lane remains closed By Mike Keltner, Director of Adair Co. Emergency Management Kentucky Department of Environmental Protection Emergency Response Team, EM, State Highway, Adair Sheriff and KSP along with many other responders remain on scene of a commercial vehicle accident on the Cumberland Expressway (Formerly Cumberland Parkway). The eastbound lane remains closed between Edmonton and Columbia Exit 46. This accident caused a release of milk into Big Creek in the Gradyville Community. While the release of milk poses no harm to livestock or persons it can cause harm to aquatic species living in the streams. Update: Parkway closed in both directions By Officer Adam Cravens, PIO Columbia Police Department The westbound lane of The Cumberland Parkway is currently closed due to a multiple vehicle accident between Adair and Metcalfe counties. Units are currently on scene from multiple agencies. Plan to detour and use caution until the scene is clear. Update from Kentucky State Police Post 15: KSP is currently on the scene of a two vehicle injury collision on the Cumberland Parkway east bound at the 41mile marker The roadway is currently closed while Troopers are on scene conducting the investigation. The east bound lane will be closed for approximately 6-8 hours. The west bound lane will be closed for approximately 2 hours. CU selected for DOE energy action plan development By Linda Waggener Campbellsville, KY - Campbellsville University, in partnership with Lycan Geological, LLC of Williamson, W.Va., has been selected by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) as one of 22 recipients for grants to help communities develop a local energy action plan creating pathways to reduce air pollution, increase energy resilience, lower utility costs, grow the economy and create good-paying jobs. "This $250,000 technical assistance is funded by the DOE's 'Communities LEAP' pilot program," said Holly Trowbridge, Campbellsville University's director of corporate and foundation relations, who said this is a first-of-its-kind initiative designed to help energy-overburdened communities take direct control of their clean energy future. The collaboration is seeking projects that can lead to new Campbellsville University programs that will educate future leaders in the sustainable energy industry. "We are constantly looking for new ways to perform research and educate our students," said Dr. Donna Hedgepath, CU's provost and vice president for academic affairs. "Bringing professionals together with university scientists can uncover new educational opportunities for future generations." In the eerie darkness punctuated with floodlights and warning signals from rescue vehicles, searchers looked for the storm victims. Relatives from outside the tornado's erratic pattern frantically hunted for the families. Kentucky State Police, the Adair County Sheriff's Office, and city officers, through their radio network coordinated rescue work throughout the night. Adair County Jailer Hailey Neagle, grasping the magnitude of the disaster when the first reports of the tornado came in, immediately summoned ambulances from surrounding counties. Renewable energy milestone William Feese spotted a wire report in the Courier-Journal's print edition this morning that noted a milestone in California's efforts at energy sustainability. According to the article, "Renewable electricity met 100% of California's electricity demand for the first time ever on Saturday" April 30, 2022. Environmentalists have been pushing for ever tougher standards on renewable energy in the state for over 20 years. Kentucky Avian Influenza sites given the all-clear By Kirk Hilbrecht Frankfort, KY - Federal and state authorities have released two Western Kentucky poultry sites from quarantine restrictions after tests reveal both premises are now clear of the highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) virus. Both sites had been under quarantine restrictions since February. Kentucky State Veterinarian Dr. Katie Flynn said the United States Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) National Veterinary Services Laboratory confirmed the environmental samples for both premises were negative indicating no avian influenza virus was detected on the commercial broiler chicken operation in Fulton County and the commercial turkey operation in Webster County.
