Richard Thomas (Rick) Herren, 51, Liberty, KY (1970-2022)

Richard Thomas "Rick" Herren of Liberty passed away on Monday, May 2, 2022, at his home. He was 51 years old.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2pmET on Sunday, May 8, 2022, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, 752 Campbellsville St, Liberty, KY, with Bro. Scott Cochran officiating. Interment will be in Hiter Cemetery. Military Honors will be performed by the Casey County Honor Guard. The Patriot Guard of Kentucky will lead the funeral procession.

Visitation will be held after 10amET on Sunday at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.


Rick was born September 6, 1970, in Casey County, son of Gary M. Herren, Sr. and the late Sharon Lee Williamson Cleary. He was a seventeen-year veteran of the United States military, serving in the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy and in the National Guard. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 5704. Rick was a carpenter by trade and a member of the Local Carpenter Union 1650.

He loved his family and his friends and enjoyed going dancing and fishing. Rick took great pride in the home he was building.

He is survived by his son, Landon Thomas Herren (and Madison Redfern), of Richmond; his father, Gary M. Herren, Sr., of Berea; his second mom, Loretta Herren Rinthen, of Lancaster; his brothers, Gary Herren (and Natalie), of Liberty, Eddie Herren (and Tracy), of Parksville, Jamie Herren (and Trista), of Berea, and Ashley Herren (and Evelyn), of Paint Lick; his sister, Laurie Bryant (and Charlie), of Liberty; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.

Rick is preceded in death by his mother, Sharon.

Active pallbearers will be Gary Herren, Eddie Herren, Jamie Herren, Ashley Herren, Charlie Bryant, John Williamson and Austyn Herren. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the V.F.W. Post 5704 and "Doodle" Bryant.
