Demiere Brown signs with LWC Basketball

By Kyle Jackson

Demiere Brown is set to join the Lindsey Wilson Men's Basketball team for the upcoming 2021-22 campaign, head coach Chris Starks announced on Thursday.

"We are really excited about the signing of Demiere. He is the type of player that you have to have to be able to compete for a championship in the Mid-South Conference. Demiere is an extremely versatile inside/out scorer who will be a match-up nightmare for opponents the next two years." Starks said.

Brown joins the Blue Raiders after completing the first two seasons of his career at Kilgore College where he was named to the NJCAA All-Region XIV Second Team in his sophomore year. Brown most recently spent the 2019-20 season with Stephen F. Austin where he redshirted his junior year. He is a six-foot-six-inch forward from Powder Springs, Georgia.

By Matthew Taylor

Campbellsville, KY - George Howell is donating to Campbellsville University to construct an addition to the Joan White Howell Environmental Education Center at Clay Hill Memorial Forest (CHMF). The donation will be made through installments over the next fiscal year of 2021-22.

Howell is the husband of the late Joan White Howell, and on May 7, 1996, he donated the original acreage on her behalf with her brother Edwin Lee (Ted) White with the explicit agreement that the land would be used for environmental and forestry education and research.

The first acreage that started CHMF was received in 1996. Now, CHMF has grown to have a total of 325 acres for environmental research. Many students conduct or assist undergraduate research projects at CHMF. Some majors use the site for field labs for courses such as ecology, entomology, ornithology and conservation biology.

Remembering Owen Lee Pollard

Larry Joe Smith writes:
Owen and I became good friends pretty quick after we put the Swap Shop on the air at 92.7 The Wave, he was a regular caller and you'd never know what kind of curve ball that he would throw at you on the air.

I also remember He would get the biggest kick out of the late "Cherokee" who would call the show, shoot his guns on the air and tell us that he took his dog in the Adair County Courtroom before Judge Michael Loy. Right after that Owen called in and... and right after that I think I got called into the office... lol.

Now Owen will join Max Rowe and Cherokee on the heavenly Swap Shop where you'll never find a bad deal. Rest in peace my ole friend Owen Lee Pollard. - Larry
