Basketball: Indians host Caverna on Feb 17 By Trey Stephens, Staff Writer On Monday, February 16, 2026, the Adair County Indians Boys Varsity Basketball team fell to the North Hardin Trojans 81-73. The Tribe will not have long to think about that loss though, as they are back at home today hosting the Caverna Colonels (19-6). The Colonels come off a 10-point win last Thursday over Edmonson County. The names to watch for Caverna are likely Region Player of the Year Jaylin Craine and Tyson Martin. The pair leads the Colonels in scoring with 16.7 and 12 points per game respectively. Martin also leads the team in rebounding, with 8 rebounds per game. There is simply no getting around it, Caverna is going to be a very tough opponent for the Indians. We have known that since the season started. In order to have a chance tonight, the team will need to lock in, play as a unit, and minimize mistakes. They could also benefit from a rocking home environment, so if you can, come out and support both the Lady Indians' and the Indians. The Boys tip off at 7pmCT on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, in John Burr Memorial Gymnasium, 526 Indian Drive, Columbia, KY. Tickets area available at hometownticketing.com. 2026-02-17 17:09:02 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Sports
Basketball: Lady Indians host Lady Colonels Feb 17 By Trey Stephens, Staff Writer The Adair County Lady Indians Basketball team is back on the court today to face the Caverna Lady Colonels at home. On Monday, the Lady Indians were achingly close to what would have been a majorly impressive Fifth Region upset, as they fell to John Hardin 59-57. John Hardin is ranked by KHSAA's RPI as the third-best team in the region, and is certainly one of the hottest teams in the region right now. Given the close call in this game it bodes well for the Tribe over the next two games. John Hardin is ranked well above Caverna and Elizabethtown who are next up on the schedule. The Lady Colonels have not won a game since December 6, and have not come within single digits of a win since January 5. In that game Caverna lost to Fort Knox by three. Adair County defeated Fort Knox by 60 points in December. You never want to count your chickens before they hatch, but the Lady Indians should be able to get out of this one with a win over the Lady Colonels. Tip off for the girls's game is at 5:30pmCT on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at John Burr Memorial Gymnasium, 526 Indian Drive, Columbia, KY. Tickets area available at hometownticketing.com. 2026-02-17 14:18:47 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Sports
Carol Perkins: Austin, part 3 Previous Column: Austin, Texas (Part 2) By Carol Perkins I need to backtrack. Jon asked where our paper wristbands were as we prepared to leave for another basketball game. "In the trash," Guy said. Jon had paid a premium for those bands, so I drove back to the hotel, hoping the trash was in the room. It wasn't. I located a housekeeper. She couldn't speak English. Another housekeeper came, speaking better English. She disappeared and returned with our trash bag. The two of us rifled through and found them. "Keep them on," Jon said, and we did. Continuing: We left Austin for a three-hour drive, headed for Galveston, where we were going to board a ship for warm weather. After mapping the route on Google, I chose the shortest one.
