Post 15 troopers and officers recognized at awards ceremony

Lexington, KY - The Kentucky State Police (KSP) honored 61 troopers, detectives and officers who went above and beyond the call of service during their Sworn Awards Ceremony on September 26, 2025. This annual event highlights those who are dedicated to protecting Kentucky's 120 counties with a mission of creating a safer commonwealth for future generations. The awards presented were for heroic acts of service that occurred in 2024.

Recipients from the Post 15 area include:
  • Trooper Trey Binder was named the 2024 Post 15 Trooper of the Year. He is a 3-year veteran of KSP.
  • Detective James Ford was named the 2024 Post 15 Detective of the Year. He is a 7-year veteran of KSP.
Last year, KSP responded to 412,530 calls for assistance, conducted thousands of wellness checks during dangerous weather conditions, protected children from online predators, obtained justice for victims, ran into unthinkable dangers and assisted local law enforcement agencies as needed to promote safety throughout the commonwealth.

Robert writes, "Down in one of the meadows in Rocky Mountain National Park, while visiting a rest area, we heard this Elk bugling. Of course I had to grab the camera and follow where I thought the sound was coming from. Had to wait on the big fellow to turn around and walk into the light.

You'll have to look a little harder for the 'street' photography in this photo!"

Adair County Genealogy Homecoming is Oct 10 and 11

We are excited about this continuing event for Downtown Days 2025! We've always considered Downtown Days weekend is "a great time to come home" and this event is even more of a reason to join us on the Public Square in downtown Columbia.

If you have ties to Adair County and are interested in your family history and genealogy or Kentucky history, this is the perfect opportunity for you to come and meet with people that are interested in sharing their knowledge.

This event will take place at the Adair County Public Library's Genealogy & History Research Center, 307 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY. Bring items related to Adair County history, your family's history or even your church or country store. Tables will be available for you to visit and swap family stories and more. Inside the Research Center our copiers and scanners will be available for easy sharing of materials, photographs, and more.

After you're finished, make your way two blocks to the Public Square for vendor booths, delicious food trucks, entertainment and more. We look forward to seeing old and new faces and we bet you'll run into someone you know!
